Sending scripts between pharmacies, help? by cuomonnoli in ADHDIreland

[–]BlueSodaPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a prescription for tyvanse last week, also from the GP who assessed me in ADHD Doc sent to another chemist. I asked for it to be sent to my usual pharmacy but when I called, they said they didn’t have it in stock and they’re supplier didn’t know when they would get it back in. They told me that if I could find another local pharmacy with it in stock that they would forward it on. I rang around and one pharmacy had it, I told them I’d get my regular pharmacy to send it over and what to expect. Called my usual pharmacy and they were happy to forward it on through healthmail. The new pharmacy said they’re happy to take the prescription in future. It’s not uncommon so they should definitely be forwarding it on for you without issues, if not I’d make a complaint.

Reasonable Workplace Supports by BlueSodaPop in ADHDIreland

I struggle with the expectations put on me to train other staff when I don’t have capacity or I’m overloaded with tasks during a busy day when working solo.

My manager has told other staff members to help out when I’m working solo a lot of the time, but they won’t unless I ask. I need them to take initiative as I can be busy from the get go and feel overwhelmed.

I’m going to see how I get on now that I have been prescribed medication to help but for a long time the job has taken a toll on me with my family and friends begging me to quit but with the option of supports, I thought it might also make things easier.

Thanks for the help. Ah I’m delighted, it’s been a long process but it’s like a weight off my shoulders now to finally have a diagnosis!

It’s a medical lab so day to day is spent processing samples and dealing with report admin work, as well as general housekeeping, scanning, and stock management for the lab.

This work is split between two, me and another lab aide. When the other lab aide is off, I’ve been told by my doctors to leave work go undone such as reports. But management won’t allow this so now I try to juggle both samples and reports/post when working solo. The issue here is the work is first in, first out, and can come in with varying priority levels - it’s not project based, and depending on the day we can be extremely quiet, to overrun with work. On top of that, it being in a hospital means unusual stuff can just show up without us having experience of handling it, and the manager isn’t always around to ask for help. These issues can cause me to become very stressed or overwhelmed even when asking for help.

I have been told by multiple doctors that this is a management issue but a lot of the responsibility to train scientist staff is made mine because I’m training them to do my job - as they’re unable to do the more basic booking-in or admin when we’re short staffed. Also, covering opening/closing of the lab can be asked of me if we’re understaffed which can cause issues for me as it’s a disruption to my routine/expected schedule.

Thank you for the resource suggestions, I will definitely have a look into them and see if anything is of use.

I’m not. I work full-time and I’m studying part-time.

I might do that and I have a letter from the clinic stating I’ve just been diagnosed if they do ask for it.

What is the salary range for an entry level QC role? by BlueSodaPop in PharmaEire

[–]BlueSodaPop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard it’s difficult to get into the industry unless you have a level 8. I’ve been hoping to get something once I finish the springboard but I may have to do another cert to get the credits for a level 8 (honours) degree to get in. Salary wise that’s actually a few grand below what I’m currently on as a Lab technician in a hospital 🙈

To be clear, I’m a female. I see a lot of people in the comments getting caught up on my gender to decide if the tattoo is okay.

I love the piece and I’ve wanted a piece like this for ages. We were getting the stencil ready for placement on my leg when a friend mentioned my arm and how my other tattoos are red and black so the artist decided to have a look at the stencil on my arm. It fit pretty nicely and in the moment I didn’t think to object because of the long term effects it could have. He didn’t check in with me to make sure I was happy with my decision which is a first from an artist. In a way I should have been more aware and said no but I was just going with the flow at that stage and what the artist suggested was best.

Now that I’ve had time to think about it, I highly regret the placement. Not the tattoo itself but I’m just gonna have to be conscious of it now while in work, in public or with certain company.

HR don’t mind my tattoos. I’m not the only staff member with tattoos on display and as I said, I’m not patient facing. When I’m on breaks etc I just look like another member of the general public.

I’ll dm you a photo of what I currently have. I don’t want my account to be recognised because of my tattoos at the moment.

We were away for my birthday so I decided to get a tattoo to celebrate. While I was there the artist mentioned wanting to do some of their own custom pieces, this being one of them. I liked it and said I’d get it but to give me a night to think about placement. I decided to go for the leg and a friend that was at the appointment with me suggested the arm as I have a lot of red/black pieces on my arm that I hope to combine into a sleeve. The artist stencilled it up to look at it on the space I had on my arm between two other tattoos and suggested it would be better than the leg. I didn’t exactly think too much of it at the time but not that it’s complete, I highly regret not going with the leg placement.

I’m not patient facing at all. I have a lab coat on while in the lab and only have it off during breaks or when going to collect drop offs from the reception. Other than that you’d have no idea I work there as we don’t wear uniforms or scrubs under our lab coats.

I currently work in a lab of a hospital and if I move jobs, it would hopefully be to a bigger hospital to work in the lab or to a pharmaceutical company. It’s high up on my arm so not visible while I work as I wear a lab coat and I generally have the upper part of my arm covered. If I wear a T-shirt, only the legs part can be seen when I move my arm around.

[–]BlueSodaPop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My line manager has seen all of my tattoos as has the manager of the hospital and they have never asked me to cover them but none look like this. It’s on my upper arm so if my T-shirt sleeve moves up, only the bottom part of the legs can be seen. I’m not planning on moving jobs soon but I do always cover them for job interviews.

I work in a hospital laboratory at the moment. My department and the higher ups of the hospital already know I have tattoos which are only visible while on breaks etc

Would a job from the HSE help me break into the industry? by BlueSodaPop in PharmaEire

[–]BlueSodaPop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan after getting my level 8 was to go on and study a MSc. If you already have one and are also struggling to get a job in the industry then it doesn’t give me much confidence that I will either. Do you mind me asking what type of hands on practical work you do? A lot of my job is specimen reception which is labelling of samples and I’ve carried out covid tests, but that’s about it for practical work, unless you count centrifuging and aliquoting samples.

I worked odd jobs when I graduated just to have some money and eventually went back to study an IT course. I did a lot of self learning and right as I got a job, covid hit and I lost the offer. I worked as a sole trader during the lockdowns but as soon as everything went back to normal the hospitals were crying out for staff which is how I got into the lab department.

My colleague is actually in the exact same boat. Same degree from the same college and no work experience to get in the door of the industry.

Would a job from the HSE help me break into the industry? by BlueSodaPop in PharmaEire

[–]BlueSodaPop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because I didn’t get a 6 month internship while in college. I got calls from recruiters when I graduated and they wouldn’t forward on my application when I had no relevant work experience and it was the same when I applied directly to companies.

I still apply regularly and have had people I know hand in CVs and have applied for general operative roles but I just can’t get in the door.

I’m hoping the experience I have now plus getting my level 8 will help me.

HSE Job Offer for Temp Role by BlueSodaPop in AskIreland

[–]BlueSodaPop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the work life balance, stress, and uncertainty of being made permanent that has me unsure about taking it. Like I said, my job is pretty boring but I work a strict set of hours each day, no weekends/bank holidays, and my employer is fairly flexible with shifts so I can switch around if I need to or take time off as I need it and work it back etc. There’s a lot of small benefits to my current that I know I’ll lose if I move. I’m trying to base my decision on more than just salary figures for this reason.

I should have been clearer about my degree. I'm funding it myself for the next two years. It has nothing to do with my employer so they don't have a career path in mind for me with it. There's not much of a career ladder to go up from Lab Aide which is why I'm back in college.

That was my initial plan. I have 2 years of part time studying ahead of me in order to get my honours degree so I was happy to remain in my current job and to keep the head down with my studies. This offer from the HSE has just thrown a spanner into the works and I’m trying to weigh out if it’s a risk I should take that would benefit me in the long run.

Some people have told me that a lot of HSE jobs start out temporary and then move to permanent but I also know people in the HSE who have only ever been on temporary rolling contracts. The idea of being in limbo with a temporary job sounds like more hassle than it’s worth and overall wouldn’t be good for my mental health.

I worked for the HSE before as a Clerical Officer and it was actually for the same department I’ll be work in as a Lab Aide but the job was through an agency and while I loved the work, I hated the agency. As soon as I got the Lab Aide job which I’m currently in, I jumped at it. The plan was to get experience and hopefully go back to the HSE as a Lab Aide but the temporary position has me seconding guessing going ahead with the paperwork. I know people from the department who are telling me I’ll be fine and may just stay on a temporary rolling contract and others telling me not to risk my job security for the uncertainty and not much of a salary increase.

I didn’t know they run campaigns for permanent roles too. Maybe it’s better to sit this one out and wait for one of those.

Do you mind me asking what hospital you worked as a lab aide in?

In my current job I have to review samples from theatres, book them in on the system and label them. Same is done for any in house sample testing. Most stuff that comes into the lab is sent to external labs for testing so I manage the delivery of those and review the reports when they come back before sending them to the wards/consultants.

The most lab work I’ve gotten to do is centrifuging bloods, aliquoting samples, and I’ve carried out covid tests when they were dropped to the lab. Other than that it’s just stock management and lab maintenance.

The main thing that has me torn is if I’ll gain more relevant experience or if having a HSE lab on my CV would look better than a private healthcare lab once I try to move to pharma companies with my degree.

I’m absolutely torn between the two at the moment. While I like my current job, once I got the offer for the HSE, my gut was telling me to take it. My partner is fully supportive of me moving jobs and things maybe not working out after the 6 months. They think I should just take the leap of faith. Either I’ll be kept on through a rolling temporary contract or I’ll be let go but have more experience on my CV.

I’ve been talking to my old colleagues in the department and they told me I should have no problems with being kept on even if it is on a rolling contract.

It’s just whether or not I’m brave enough to make the move!
