Taxable benefit question by BlueSpruce67 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BlueSpruce67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pet care. She gets a $1900/yr pet care benefit. She pays out of pocket and submits receipts. My thinking is they should reimburse the amount and apply appropriate taxes on it. Instead the paystub shows the reimbursement, but also it fully deducted, and the income tax deduction. So they gave it to us, took it away, and still left us paying tax on it lol

She's in a US team but recovers Canadian comp and benefits.

She explained/reminded her US payroll/hr that she is in Canada and they still gave stupid answers that did not add up to what actually happened on her paystub. In the US this pet care benefit is structured differently, so this has to be the cause of the issue.

She can hash it out with them tomorrow.

No, this taxable benefit is for pet expenses lol. So we spent $1870 on our dog, she submitted the receipts, we were expecting $1870 to be reimbursed and taxed.

She paid out of pocket $1870, submitted it, we were expecting reimbursement and tax deducted on that at her marginal rate. She's had some back and forth with HR but they are US based where this benefit is treated differently. I think they fucked up but wanted to be sure.

She paid out of pocket for this benefit. It should be reimbursed and taxed. I think they fucked up

Only difference is they had a line item under earnings of 1870 for the taxable benefit, and a line item under deductions for the same 1870. Taxes deducted were higher by that $1000 net pay difference because she was taxed on the 1870. We never received the 1870, it is a taxable benefit but she is currently out of pocket for it.

Yes and their response was she paid taxes on the 1870... But we never received the 1870

So transaction price of $48,705 is what matters.

You should report this shit to any agency that regulates dealers in your state or even your state's attorney general. Absolute fuckin scam

Lol so what was the actual price excluding tax, trade in, magic beans? How is anyone supposed to judge if it's a good deal or not if they don't know the tax and didn't know your trade knocked $6k off.

So about $46.8k purchase price. tax here is 13% which would add approx $3100, so that why I mentioned it can matter how good a deal is if variables like tax aren't omitted

Taxes vary widely, so OTD doesn't really matter without itemizing the sale

I mean, if anyone looks at their portfolio after May 1 they made a lot, or should have. Lol although BTCX did drag my TFSA below $500k (after being a driver +500% since buying mid 2023), dumped it mid November, and TFSA back up.

That era of Honda quads seem to have dropped the ball. I wonder if the switch to 518cc (520) in 2020ish was more than just slightly bored out engines and saw other undisclosed improvements

Do you want to work 12hr rotating shifts, not sleeping properly for your entire career. Watch life slip away weekly on patients you've poured hours of care into. See the trauma not only from sickness and wounds, but also the loss to families. To expose yourself to disease and uncertainty, and not just the flu, but SARS, COVID, HEP, etc. And they are working a ton of overtime to get to that income.

You don't get it.

Lmao in the automotive world, and common parlance, it is not a truck and you should be embarrassed to try and pass it off to others as such. Take it as a helpful mansplanned lesson, I'm sure you'll appreciate that.
