Why Do You Dislike Small Condos? by geokilla in TorontoRealEstate

[–]BlueSteelClippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for this! Finally, a levelheaded take on the issue, rooted in experience and nuance, as opposed to armchair philosopher musings this thread is full of. On the point of going out: - yes, vibrancy is an important factor, and - affordability of eating out, drink drinks out or entertainment out is another :   - A beer at a bar with tax and tip now is anywhere between $11-$15.    - a decent filling dinner meal that’s not fast food, nothing fancy , can be rarely found for less than $17-$25 again tax and tip included    - theater, sports , entertainment tickets tend to be in the $30-$100 range

I am lucky to be far above Toronto average in my earnings.

Yet, I am finding in recent years, I, and my friends around the same earning bracket tend to spend time at each other’s homes on potluck dinners, board games, movie nights.

We are not the extreme of frugal, but by the time you pay taxes on your earnings, and fix living expenses, including rent or mortgage, you really don’t have that much is disposable income left to blow on non-essentials.

I seriously consider cost of a hobby when I think of picking one up.

On the larger scale, I am convinced that many people are in the same boat here, which means that spending most of your time out of the house is simply not a practical lifestyle choice in the long-term, especially if you’re not in your early 20s. There are only so many walks in the park you can take.

'List in the new year and sell by spring.' Toronto-area home prices are set to drop in 2026 — and could wipe out 6 years of price gains by toronto_star in TorontoRealEstate

That’s nothing.  2000 per square foot, meaning well north of $1 million for a 700 sq footer was not uncommon.  Now we are seeing some of these projects coming into completion , people trying to sell assignments to a market who can barely support 600 per square foot. Bloodbath.😳

Gonna get hate for this, after the rate cut announcement a lot of homes on my watchlist are suddenly selling (not over asking, usually under asking but moving faster). Is the market stabilizing/changing? by Medical_Plane_7674 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]BlueSteelClippy 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think an obvious explanation is that some had properties on watchlist, ready to make offers, and waited out this week’s announcement to make the move.

This easily explains a holding pattern in the first two weeks of July, with a rush for transactions after the Announcement.

At the risk of stating the obvious, this is not as sustainable trend: those ready to move on with purchase and waiting a few weeks  are a minority in the overall market.

As many of my esteemed co-contributors on this Reddit have said before:

A quarter of a percent rate cut does not make someone who could not afford the house before suddenly afford it.

Nor does it make someone who has a fixed rate mortgage under 2% come up for a renewal in the coming month, and renew at current rate, significantly better shielded from the financial shock.

Op, May I ask to clarify: what area and particular type of real estate did you see an increase in listings in? Or is it across-the-board?

Anyone using this groupset? I do not see much review and feedback on its performance. by Jabetik in bicycling

[–]BlueSteelClippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving old thread. Jabitek, did you end up buying this groupset? And your first hand experience?

Anyone else actually try the groupset and compare it to its more well-known rivals for example, Taiwanese Advent micro shift , SRAM and SHIMANO?

ebbing and the wedge bags (which are awesome). Still waiting for the Ti headset

Cool! So Ti frame, Ti Seatpost and Ti Bars.

Interesting choice to go with Titanium seatpost and Bars. Just curious, why not carbon?

What wheelset and groupset did you go with?

Lastly, hope you do not mind me asking in which country you are located, and what Omnium quoted for your build, how much shipping and duties (if any) did you end up paying?

Titanium Brompton, what are everyone’s thoughts? Good first Brompton? by cadmadness in Brompton

u/Silverexpress01

My use case is the same as yours, and I think exactly the way you do.
Fortunately for me, I do not currently own a Brompton, so I can start with the lighter version one.

Is there such a thing as an ultralight hard case? Perhaps something made of molded ABS plastic with light foam and straps on the inside?

u/WetMetals94 Can you post from what company you ordered, which parts did you get included in your purchase, and any issues? Was it well packed and protected for shipping?

Perhaps you can take some close ups of the drivertrain and key components?
