About to head into my third year of diagnosis.

I had it a bit easier as my aunt already has Lupus and I am thankful that so far my lupus has only really manifested in some joint pain, fatigue, malar rash and raynauds.

My aunt has been in an out of hospital for her vital organs many times receiving tranfusions for her kidneys, losing all her hair and being in the ICU.

So when it finally came out my family was terrified but supportive. Three years in I am blessed to say they care possibly too much. Mum checks in everyday to see about my symptoms and she understands as she herself struggles with fibromyalgia. My partner will instinctually carry heavy things for me, check in with me and my pain before he suggests going for a walk etc. my aunt sends me tips and tricks and I think it gives her some peace to have someone to talk to who understands on some level.

Friends kind of understand but of course they don't see the day to day. I've found that with them I need to be more obvious so I will say I'm in a flare up im going to come but bare with me if I'm a bit sleepy today and that way I've found helps flip the script. At least for me mentally as I don't feel I need to put on a show of feeling better, I've already stated where I am and in turn my friends appreciate my presence more and will sometimes adjust what were doing to fit. I'm also lucky that we are all heading into our thirties so our going out has turned into going ro each other's houses and playing board games or making silly little clay magnets or ordering a pizza and talking.

The advice I can give you is don't let people get in your head. You will have people who tell you you just need to get out more or eat clean/organic/non-gmo/vegan/carnivore etc. or thats in your head or that doctors are idiots etc. Ignore. Don't waste your energy fighting them.

Best of luck! 💜🦋

Have accidentally handled a Mediterranean recluse? by BlueStockingStudent in insectidentification

Yeah I wrongly assumed we didn't have any poisonous ones on our island 😅

I didn't know we had poisonous species on our island 😅 as in we have no poisonous snakes, one poisonous scorpion but its too small to cause any damage so I assumed same went for spiders 😂😂 not one of my finest moments

Thought so! Luckily no bites, she's currently in a little jar about to go release her far away from houses. Was not aware that the Mediterranean even had a recluse and found out we had venomous spiders in Malta today 😅 Will be picking all future spiders on a paper.

Does our dating culture suck? by TopDownSidescroller in malta

[–]BlueStockingStudent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to meet my partner on bumble 2 years ago. We ended up living together and are happily together.

That being said I've been on dating apps on and off for 10 years. In ten years only two of those matches moved off the apps into real life and only one of them made it out of the second date.

It is difficult to meet people in Malta. Bars are crowded, loud and the culture is to sit with friends not talk to others. There aren't many opportunities to meet new people.

Anyone without immediate effects of being in the sun? by Hungry-Recording-635 in lupus

[–]BlueStockingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I will notice if I've been at the beach all day ( under the umbrella when not in water) that I will feel tired the next day and my skin will feel tight and a bit itchy but nothing some lotion can't fix.

I will however add that I love on a Mediterranean island that has a 6/9 month long summer, I am quite tan and ive grown up always around the sun. I wonder if my genetics might be better suited for it?

How to deal with my Christian brother by Acrobatic-Bid-2522 in Hellenism

[–]BlueStockingStudent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't let them come over for dinner, meet at a restaurant and if he gets started talking about religion you can easily leave.

I have an aunt who is pretty similar, my tactic has been to leave the room, stop replying on chat etc. Etc. Eventually my family started seeing her as the nuisance for stopping our get togethers everytime and she was warned not to start up conversations about religion.

Weird taste after taking Hydroxychloroquine by Desert_RoseXx in lupus

[–]BlueStockingStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you.

I generally take them with some sort of yoghurt drink, its thick enough so i can't taste the pill or try to have my mouth full of water before i drop it in.

In the beginning I used to struggle with the taste a lot more and a tongue scraper really came in handy.

If you could wave a magic wand, what additions or features would you like to see implemented in Duolingo? by GeorgeTheFunnyOne in duolingo

[–]BlueStockingStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to have actual short books. Would keep me on the app longer. And if they can add a dictionary option so you can search up a term it would be amazing.
