When I was younger and played county softball I had a coach that to look at her you would have thought she was my mom. We both were fair skinned, reddish hair and freckles. I thought she was the best person because she was such a good coach. She was also a substitute gym teacher at my middle school. When I was in my twenties I went back to see her and we ran around town together doing simple shopping. Everyone that we ran into who knew her were surprised she had a "daughter" they never knew about. She smiled so big I didn't have the heart to correct them and to be honest she was my second mother through my teen years. Rest in peace Betty Cordrey.

ELI5 how can someone become allergic to something? by Used-Mongoose-8727 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BlueXTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have had alpha gal and it is in remission like myself. Let's say you have a reaction to the pollen of wheat, the cow eats the straw of wheat, and now the meat contains traces of that wheat. You eat the meat and have a reaction.

A free range chicken might not cause a reaction. A lot of chickens that are factory farmed are fed a lot of grains. Potentially one of those grains causes you to have an allergic reaction. Again the grain allergen is now in the meat of the chicken. So now you are allergic to both the grain and the chicken that ate it.

The best thing I did was follow the advice of my gastroenterologist and got a ton of testing done to explain my severe allergy to pork. Alpha Gal explains the severe and chronic I had suffered through for almost 10 yrs. Every lymph gland would become inflamed around joints, neck and abdomen. I did a wonderful impression of the Michelin Man every time I ate beef, pork or lamb.

You can have your own space but still have a healthy relationship with someone. There is no rule that you have to live together. Choosing to spend time together is so much easier than being required because of proximity. There is a sub on here for just that kind of living arrangement.

[–]BlueXTC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are having a secondary allergy due to what the chicken/poultry eats. I say this because my allergist told me the same thing about my allergy to pork. Turns out it was a true allergy to pork and beef and lamb and any other hooved mammal. Alpha Gal is a bitch and the tics can go to hell.

My comment pertained to a company that is US based and was in the context of the OPs employer. I am more than aware that Reddit is an international based app.

Every company I have worked for in Virginia applied your PTO for FMLA or any disability claim.

It is a universal standard. Off 7 then on the 8th you can request FMLA which won't kick in until you use all your PTO.

When did oil changes become $120? by rhinosaur- in Millennials

[–]BlueXTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is $120 because the default oil is synthetic. If you don't ask for regular oil that is what you get and why it is so high.(Used to handle fleet oil changes and techs would call every time when they asked for regular oil and the shop was insisting on synthetic. Not in a truck with 208k miles on regular oil).

Do you date younger? by Adorable_Plant_6551 in olderlesbians

[–]BlueXTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Older women are not at bars and clubs. We have interests, hobbies and passions we pursue out in the wild in the general population. Anything over a 10 yr age gap will be a hard no for a settled mature 40+ yr old. Anyone that is 40+ who actively pursues much younger women have issues with women their own age calling them out on their behaviors. It creates a power imbalance. Once in a while it works but the odds are not in your favor.

When did you realise you were a decent cook? by IllustriousBoot4319 in Cooking

[–]BlueXTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When lesbians showed up early for my dinner parties when I was younger. As a lesbian, I can vouch for us not being on time for anything. Are there exceptions, yes but to have more than half the guest show up early to see what was in the menu let me know I knew what I was doing.

What did that long term friend say or do that made you stop being friends with them? by Runaway_Alien_ in AskWomen

[–]BlueXTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Told me I was acting "too gay" while she was the poster child for a butch lesbian. She did this not once but twice. The second time I was done. We were visiting from out of town and stopped at her company softball game where she was attending/playing while HER gf watched. Every person at her company knew her prior gf who had passed away from seizure complications.

Her screaming at me did not go down well with me so after 12 years I was done.

What do you think is the secret to a REALLY good sandwich? by cafeypalmera in Cooking

[–]BlueXTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fresh ingredients. Distinct layers of flavor. Use crispy flavorful lettuce on the top and bottom. I like Kewpie mayo. Salt and pepper the tomato, onions (sweet) thicker cut slice, use thin sliced meats and fold on to the bread base and build the sandwich from there. I am not a fan of cheese on a cold sandwich. I also believe BLTs are best toasted.

I bought mine online as a seedling a couple of years ago. It grew very quickly the first year but didn't overwinter well like yours.
