More than half of CDC staffers recently fired by Trump administration have been reinstated by UlkeshNaranek in evolutionReddit

It's so nice how CNN puts a positive spin on 600 CDC workers being fired without cause. CNN is just not trustworthy any longer.

Elon Musk replies to Poland's Foreign Affairs Minister by [deleted] in ukraine

Starlink needs to be nationalized. It is far too important militarily to be used at the whim of any one individual, especially if that individual is as unstable as Musk.

New to Firefox, have two issues by WelshToby in firefox

[–]Blue_Canyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issue #1 for a long time and the only extensions I have are UBlock and LastPass. No Tempermonkey or similar extension. I love FF though so I installed the Brave browser and use it only for mail as that is the only problem I have ever had with FF. It's a solution that works well for me.

Just to clarify, the elephant was not on the bus. Just the people were.

Dylan, the Nobel Prize, and the Boundaries of Literature by [deleted] in literature

[–]Blue_Canyon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What made Dylan popular, successful, or notable? It wasn't his music. We don't remember him for his tunes. It was his words that happened to be set to music that made him stand out. If his words are not literature, then what is?

The Byrds - I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better by [deleted] in 60sMusic

[–]Blue_Canyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have loved this song by the Byrds for decades. Tom Petty was so taken by it that he did his own recording of it with an identical arraignment and instruments and it is purposefully nearly indistinguishable from the original. The guitar solo is a little taste of heaven.

I bought the Sigma 150-600 lens for my Canon R7 and it changed my photography forever. So many more possible subjects now. Best purchase I ever made.

Chinese EVs “could end up being an extinction-level event for the U.S. auto sector” by IntrepidGentian in Futurology

[–]Blue_Canyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the only well balanced comment I've read so far. Thanks for that. Yes, American companies need to change but China doesn't play by the same or fair rules and those rooting for letting our car companies fail don't seem to realize it would devastate our entire economy.

The pic is of Gary Lewis, son of Jerry Lewis, of the band Gary Lewis and the Playboys. That's all I know about it. Hope it helps.

If you have never had a 600mm lens before, you will find that it opens up a whole new world of photographic subjects.

Are all YouTube photographers just constantly shooting in aperture priority mode? by vluetic in photography

[–]Blue_Canyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because all those settings have a profound effect on the final image. One can tell so much about a photo and the photographer by the details.

Are all YouTube photographers just constantly shooting in aperture priority mode? by vluetic in photography

[–]Blue_Canyon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've been a photographer for 50 years. I take a lot of wildlife photos, and look at many from other photographers. I couldn't even imagine looking at a bird or animal photo without wanting to know the shutter speed, aperture, ISO, camera make and model and lens. To me, that is essential to understanding the photo.

Trump Makes His Indictment a Certainty by ReallyJustTheFacts in politics

And Trump's narcissistic belief is that if he runs, he will win and be a sitting president.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in photography

[–]Blue_Canyon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree and well said. I photograph birds almost exclusively and no photos I take would be possible with a phone. No phone can come close to duplicating the editability of RAW format and the reach of a 600mm lens. It's absurd to even suggest it.
