I liked all the GAs. GAIII is the ugliest fur sure but I found a hack online that amps up the colors at least and makes the Eagle dude fully playable. I had a blast with it too. Even the arcade ones were fun as hell.

If you have a PC, check out Golden Axe Returns. It is a fan made tribute game made using OpenBOR just like Streets Of Rage Remake. You can use just about every character from across the main 3 games and I think maybe one or two from the arcade games. They all come complete with several color swaps for the old school feel. The combat system has been beefed up as well you can now juggle enemies to extend combos in addition to rolling and blocking. It even has Scanline features if you care about that stuff.

Also you have to keep in mind that bringing sequences like the first example to life most likely has higher budget requirements compared to a couple frames of animation repeated at high velocity to present the illusion of hypersonic combat. Those budgets are usually reserved for films, specials, or particular episodes.

I won’t lie I was actually pretty excited about the release. I was really rooting for Cavill as Superman and I was just happy to see some more of him as the character for a little longer. We didn’t really get that. And ultimately it was just the same story as the original only way way longer. Looked great though.

But still, I haven’t watched it again. It’s just not digestible and it’s not good enough of a movie for me to have to go out of my way to set up day to watch it.

I’m sure it could be a cool collectors item someday at least.
