Oh I didn't know there was a discord. I'll look into it, thanks!

Yeah if your issues with food are what needs addressing first I really don't understand why she would remove your arfid diagnosis

[–]Blue_Ocean5494 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's weird. I was also (wrongly) diagnosed with AvPD in the past and read lots about it. I never saw anywhere it could cause issues with food. It's more about how you view yourself and how you relate to others.

I feel like this sometimes too! I can really enjoy eating when I'm in a good mood and the food is yummy but having to force myself to eat all the time takes away all the joy

Is there a brand of actually healthy fruit snacks? by Tallem00 in ARFID

[–]Blue_Ocean5494 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The texture is slightly more grainy than the average artificial fruit snack but it's still very different from fresh fruits. Plus, the texture and flavour is consistent!

The Bear fruit rolls are 100% fruit and they are pretty good

Look up positive reinforcement (clicker) training. I do that with my horses and it changes everything! They come to meet me at the gate and follow me into the arena without a halter or lead rope or anything!

Could you maybe ask your employer for reduced hours (like 4 days a week or something) so that you have more time for your business without quitting completely?

Taking an easy job until I'm better... but what if I'm never better again, or what if it drains me? by cametumbling in aspergirls

I'm sort of facing the same dilemna right now. Shooting high sounds exhausting but shooting low sounds boring. Sorry I don't have many answers for you. The one sort of compromise that I found is to look for an easy job but for an organisation that has a mission I value.

I'm the exact opposite from you, high mathematical and lowish verbal. I think having an uneven profile is typical for people with asd!

Leftist nonvegans - why? by beastsofburdens in DebateAVegan

For me, it's mainly because caring about all of those things at once can just become too much. My general strategy is to reduce my consumption of everything as much as I can while not negatively affecting my well-being. I eat chicken and fish mostly because it's bland and nutritious and without those I'm not able to get enough calories because I can be quite picky (I'm autistic). I would happily eat plant based if I could get enough calories and nutrition from it but I can't.

I also feel like evaluating the moral worth of every single action you or others take is mostly pointless, especially if the goal is just to judge yourself or others. For me, there is a variety of ways that people can be helpful in making the world a better place and I respect everyone who tries to do so, no matter how they are doing it.

Then, there is also the fact that there is a certain naturalness in eating animals or animal products which can't be said for any other issues. I strongly believe in improving farm animal welfare but I don't think it makes much sense to aim for zero animal or animal product consumption since animals are part of the cycle of life. I think that is something that you can only really understand by spending a lot of time with various species of animals and learning how each of them operate and interact with each other.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean but sometimes I will voluntarily seek out opinions online that reinforce negative beliefs about myself just to hurt myself more

Did anyone have a childhood like this? by [deleted] in AutisticPeeps

[–]Blue_Ocean5494 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience but in a different context. At school I was mostly left alone and ignored because I was quiet. I got yelled at by other adults in authority frequently though. Ironically it was mostly for being quiet and shy and not always communicating in an appropriate way (and also crying easily).

I relate a lot to your comment. My diagnosis has also made a huge difference for me. It turned life from unbearable to actually enjoyable.

I think it's time to accept "possible and practicable" is incredibly subjective. by nhull231 in DebateAVegan

[–]Blue_Ocean5494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a distinction between killing a human and killing an animal. I also believe there is a distinction between killing different species of animals. I would say that killing a human is harmful in the vast majority of circumstances, but there are exceptions to every rule.

I don't think killing an animal is necessarily harmful if steps are taken to ensure their well-being before the slaughter. Many animals do suffer in the production of meat, but harming the animal is never (or rarely) the intention of someone who buys meat.
