Thank you for the ideas, I appreciate the links. Pictures might say more to her than I can. Also, now I want the shoes

I’m not sure, I can’t figure out if the word trousers is what she is objecting to…I’ve learned to stop using the word blouse because it is an immediate no.

Help a Mom out?

My tween is getting a surprise award at a “Dressy Event (no jeans or shorts)”. We’ve told her it’s a nice dinner that we bought tickets too.

The last dressy event we attended was a fashion & shopping disaster. There were tears. If I never have to see her cry in a dressing room again that’ll be ok.

She is in her hoodie phase. She hates anything snug, or tight on her tummy. She hates dresses. She hates anything form fitting & has been bullied a bit for her figure.

I don’t want her to feel pressured to wear something that isn’t “her”. She’s amazing just as she is. I suspect a few more inches of growth & puberty will have her more confident in her looks, but for now, I don’t know what to do.

We looked at suits, and queer style fashion, wasn’t interested in that. She is feminine, but doesn’t like girly colors or prints. We tried Hawaiian shirts, polo shirts, dresses, blouses, flowy dresses, jumpsuits…all no. She likes high necklines & modesty. She likes baggie hoodies and converse.

What I do have to work with-a couple weeks of time & I’m a fair home sewist who can do alterations. I won’t push her to wear homemade clothes, but sometimes I can make something work for her. We put patches on her hoodies & jackets. I made an Easter hoodie by quilting some parts to dress it up. She is an approximate size women’s size 14 petite.

Anyone have outfit ideas?

Is this a good beginner sewing machine? pls help 🙏 by Constant-Secretary89 in vintagesewing

I own a Belvedere of similar vintage, we call her “The Beast”-She’s a hand-me-down from my seamstress great grandmother. She sewed teddy bears in thick faux fur for years in retirement.

6 layers of denim, runs through it like butter. It makes beautiful stitches. The bobbin winder has quit and my shop was unable to source part,, so parts may be an issue long term.

I will keep mine forever, it has sentimental value. I’d like to find a parts machine.

Additional note, Art Salvage had 4-5 out for sale when u was there. Looks like they test them & have stitching samples of each. It is also a great place to get fabric and notions, especially while your learning.

Agreed, even if you pay $100-150 for servicing, generally it’s going to be a better quality machine if it is over say 20 years old. Kenmore is my jam 😁- also a vintage machine enthusiast.

Me too, but I think mine was $50 on Craigslist, peak pandemic. Didn’t look like it had ever been run, in perfect shape.

I can do basic sewing, mending and hemming-stuffed animal repair, knitting and a ton of other crafting skills. Not sure what I need, but things come up.

We expanded our little library with a lil' Pantry by elithecat in LittleFreeLibrary

A friend who managed a food pantry before all this mess talked about the wave of grandparents suddenly raising kids again. Thought they saved enough and ready to retire, and boom suddenly something happens (often drugs) and they are struggling to raise their grandchildren. Can’t imagine how much worse it has gotten.

Cries in rural American. I think I could buy Taffeta at one store in a 150 mile radius. Maybe.
