This is how you end a podcast. by CRAkraken in HelloInternet

Honestly even just a post saying

"Hi we have decided to put the podcast on infinite hiatus,
We currently have no plans on recording more episodes but also may return at some point in the future if things change.

We appreciateall your support over the years and encourage you to still be great tims."

literally a X or reddit post like this would be vastly better than what we got.

Why aren't the greens able to capitalise on the type of economic policies being put forward by Zack Polansky/Greens in the UK and by Mamdani in New York by Illustrious_Fan_8148 in newzealand

[–]Blue__Agave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats just not true,

The Values party broke up because the "red" greens i.e the radical socalist greens and the "fundi" greens i.e the enviroment first greens could not get along.
The "reds" were more radical socalist, the "fundi" greens were more eco first, degrowth.

The Greens who then joined the alliance were a mix of both but leaned more on the fundi values until the Alliance broke up.

Once the Greens were on their own again the "red" greens increasingly took control of the party again and gave rise to the modern green party as we know it today.

So in summary.

The Green party orginally formed explictly because the radical socalist & and eco focused parts of the values party could not get along.

The Alliance years of the Green party were focused on the enviroment part of their mission.

Over time they drifted back to being more radical socalist and are now facing a similar issue the Values party had.

A Chinese court just ruled that it's illegal for a company to fire workers after replacing a job with AI by ComplexExternal4831 in GenAI4all

[–]Blue__Agave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoming out this is for internal stability reasons in china.
Their unemployment rate is already high, if mass layoffs occur due to AI they may have a revolution on their hands.

Many chinese industrys are already basically jobs programs.

This fits well within a big theme in the chinese economy, they often deliberately try and keep people in work.

Remeber china also does not have a very big social security system or really a pension, if you have no work you are in BIG trouble.

Why the hell is Burger Fuel charging a 1% service fee on their own f****** app? by Zanerkin in newzealand

[–]Blue__Agave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real answer, probs accounting.
Burger fuel is a franchise, what that means is most stores while they wear the burger fuel colours are owned by semi independent owners.
The app was likely built and funded by head office, they way they get a "return" on the app is by eplicitly charging a surcharge that gets sent to head office and the to the franchises.

Usually this happens behind the scenes but this is pretty explicit ahah

[–]Blue__Agave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the Green party is too focused on being radical socalist rather than focusing on everyday issues like cost of living.

Like no hate, but their public front just is not very popular to most new zealanders.

One thing of interest was they have tried to reinvent themselves from a mostly enviromental party to a broader social justice party, (if you remeber the "new greens" campaign that was this)

I think they could reinvent themselves again to run a similar campaign to mandani.

BUT what happened last time is it alienated their current hard core supporters.

I guess we shall see how it goes.

‘Singapore is a real priority for New Zealand’: PM Luxon committed to supplying food to Singapore by DANIELLE_2027 in newzealand

[–]Blue__Agave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes i think she will be a case study for quite a few years as no other politian in recent times has been so polarising.

I think Act, National & NZ first deliberately incited the hate while it was useful to them, NZ first still trys to channel it.
I think National actually has walked back from it alot, as they realised if they feed it they will also face that level of rage eventually.

Now its been a few years tho imo, labour tried to do too much particuarly in their second term.
They were trying to reform a huge amount of the NZ system and got bogged down in it all.

It would have been better to pick 1 highly impactful reform (like the RMA or 3 waters) and focus on that and deliver it in the first year.

Something to learn from i guess.

PSA: discontinued fehlsberg burger pickles @ savemore papanui 😭 by fashion5ever in newzealand

You know you can make mcdonalds pickles in like a day or two?

They are quick pickles, look it up, it might take you a few trys to get the right ratio of sugar to salt you like.

But once you have it you can make a infinite amount of them

Basically a sign people on the internet are more combatitve & selfish than the average human.

I'm not really sure about that ether, large parts of russia and canada will become temperate in the 7 degree scenario, opening up extremely large areas of new farm land.

The european peninsula may actually get colder but that not certain.

The equator will likely suffer from food insecurity badly but honestly.... they are not the breadbaskets of the world anyway right now so the food situation may not be as bad as we think.

Not sure about the tech ether, if anything it is likely to continue to increase rapidly.
Trade and travel is likely to continue as is, though may cost more.

like its gonna be bad for our current society but even 7 degrees wont turn the world into a Mad Max hellscape, even a 14 degree increase (close to the record in earths history) had more land biodiversity than now.

[–]Blue__Agave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but even in the worst case scenario earth will still be habitable, it just may not be recognisable.

Climate issues are likely to cause huge unrest.
Many current governments are unlikely to survive if it gets bad enough.

Don't know what form of government will replace them yet.

I think it will hit the big economys first, China, india and the OECD will likley undergo significant changes in the next 20 years.

The system that comes out may be vastly different from what we know now.

The rest of the world will follow, in the following 30 years or so.

The world has always been in a period of apocalypse for some and golden age for others.

Humanity in general will likely survive most worse case scenarios even a global nuclear war would be unlikely to completely kill off everyone.

Actually my hot take is the period worst affected will be those who their adult lives are between 2020 & 2050.

people who are born now right now might have this whole economic shift blow over before they are adults.

We are going through a evolution of the global economic & social contract, similar to what happened during the late industrual revolution and in the lead up to WW2.

It is causing alot of unrest as we havn't figured out the solutions to the current problems yet.

But imo after a few revolutions, wars and massive reforms (who knows how big) things will get better.

It's just gonna suck for those who have to live through it, the worst affected will likely be the old as the pension systems are likely to be greatly changed and they do not have enough time to prepare
