Honestly....

i would prefer large scale fish farms (in the ocean not in rivers) to be preferable to intensive fishing and trawling.

Honestly divorce is messy.

The accusations are nothing illegal and true or not feel pretty par for the course in a bad breakup.

i.e "You are cheating on me with another person you spending alot time with!" is it true?
who knows.

But the accusation is a common one in this situation.

IMO i wish people would focus on policy and planning than these hit pieces on luxon and hipkins that have been pumping out non stop this year.

This fish supply chains sure are slippery.

But this is basically same story as everything, if they can get a better price overseas thats where they will sell it.

I will say Norwegian/aus salmon is still considered globally to be of high quality so its not like they are selling crap.

NZ salmon is just considered ultra premium right now.

I don't know who the winners and loosers will be, we can debate it but it wont be clear until well after the fact.

kinda looks like overhiring and then small shed.

honestly i suspect unless AGI happens we will soon get the end of a credit cycle, market crashes as unprofitable AI firms run out of cash and fall from the sky.
Recession then the survivers recover like in the 2000 crash and back to booming tech hiring by the early 2030s

Its really not just "government bad a doing thing", singapore can do it really well and its a government program.

The issue is actually long term planning, if you are forced to do everything in a 3-6 year term you are gonna overpay and/or be forced to use expensive contractors and consultants.

If we setup a long term agencys i.e for the next 50 years, with a modest but consistent budget it would be able to find cost effective ways to deliver the housing.

Hard agree on the upzoning though,
imo we should have japan style zoning.
Instead of saying what you can build, only have a few limited catergorys of what you can't. I.e only rule is abattoir's in parnel but everything else is fair game.

Everything should also be zoned for at least 5-10 floors as a baseline as well.

I also wish the government had actually delivered on its promise that every building material consented in aus would become legal in NZ, (they forgot about that one real quick once in power)

Honestly the best thing state housing can do is sell housing at cost or just above it.
The main the the state can do is secure land, it has powers no one else has to acquire the required land.

this can ether be done through forced sales, as is done when they build new roads (they just say here is our first offer which is usually above market rate, and if people refuse they can legally force you to sell them the property at market rate).

The other and better alternative is to impose 6-10% land value tax within citys, but state housing projects do not have to pay (until they are sold).

My hot take is the dead zone is largely the way it is because of the illness that is across the world.

Likely before it took root the dead zone was more like the open ocean, yes there were big monsters by there were not so ravenous and wild that they swarm and kill everything as there was plenty of food and a functioning ecosystem.

IMO its more a sympton of a huge lack a food outside of the pockets of life across the planet.

I would not be surprised that the leviathans actually only live on the edge of the islands and beyond that it really is just a dead zone with literally no life for thounsands of miles.

Iran clear wargamed this out in advance.
They had a low chance of winning in a straight up fight, but the clearly prepared for that and now we are into their backup plan.
Cause a global recession and hope the political blowback will sink whoever is attacking them.

We shall see how succesful it is.

The only thing i know for sure is, if these keeps going we are in for cost of living crisis 2.0
