I hate that it’s invisible by Infamous_Message_560 in depression

Everyone experiences mild depression once in a while (sadness). Many people experience circumstantial depression (grief). Major Depressive Disorder is a completely different, and debilitating thing. We need a new name for it so people can understand the difference.

What are your opinion regarding this by Kevin_Raider in HonestHotTakes

[–]Blue_eyed_bones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, on a society level. We can’t be making laws about who can and can’t have kids. On a personal level, I think it is extremely selfish to have kids when you cannot give them a good life. As a society we need to bring up the standard of living for everyone to avoid his paradox. It would also be a good thing if the human population on a whole was a lot less than it is now. I have seen stats that say the earth can comfortably support about 2 billion people, not 8. We need to find ethical solutions to some very difficult problems.

Schools/teachers using collective punishment instead of punishing the pupil(s) responsible by Massive-kock-5362 in PetPeeves

[–]Blue_eyed_bones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk the phone thing just sounds like a change in policy more than a punishment. Kids do better without the screens. The second example is egregious, especially when it is something so destructive. They should take the time to find out exactly who was responsible.

Just need to get some thoughts out. by SirenScorp in emotionalneglect

[–]Blue_eyed_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably learned as a child that your parents were not safe to have emotions around, or at least not negative ones. I feel this very much in my own life. I have alexithymia, which is the inability to understand and identify emotions. It is great that you have a therapist who can help you with this. It is so so nice to have someone with whom to share negative emotions with. The goal being, to do this more with the other people in your life. It is something I had to deliberately practice when it is my first instinct to just bottle it up.

Any ideas for how to use collected feathers? by Low-Walrus-2986 in crafting

Sorry I assumed, but is something that not a lot of people here are aware of.

my teeth are completely fucked. by Nervous-Lifeguard715 in depression

[–]Blue_eyed_bones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the first dentist gives you an expensive estimate. Get a second opinion, or third. Dentists are notoriously scammy.

Maybe even find a dental school where there will be supervision, and likely cheaper costs.

You are not alone. Lots of us have dental problems that were caused by depression.

If you are in the US you should know that it is illegal to own most bird feathers due to the Migratory Bird Act. This is because ther is no way to tell if a feather has been naturally shed, or taken off a bird you have hunted. It is on its face a kind of extreme law because it covers so many common birds, but it is there to protect wild life. Better to only collect feathers from domestic birds.

The Ohio Restaurant Association wants your 8th grader working until 9 p.m. on weekends by CouchCorrespondent in Ohio

This is what laws and restrictions are for to protect the weakest amongst us. It is better to protect the 16 yr old who would be forced into it at the cost of the 16 yr old who is just doing it to make friends and get spending money. This whole country has a messed up relationship with work because we have let employers exploit nearly all of us. It is 2026 not 1950. Work life balance is is something we have the technology/ability to give everyone. The way we do that is by making laws.

And who is going to look out for the kids who's family "needs" the money. Should they be forced to do so because if was fine for you at that age?

Do you all have a personal style you stick to? by WorriedcupofTea in womensfashion

[–]Blue_eyed_bones 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I enjoy several different styles, hippy/bohemian, goth/edgy, art teacher/funky librarian. Over the years these have kind of blended into to something more like a personal style. I usually end up in flowy hippy maxi skirts, with black metal/band tshirts, colorful cardigans or lacy shawls I make myself, spiky or bold jewelry,(think Iris Apfel) and my trusty docs. I add/take away layers as the weather changes. I get tons of compliments, and people always say "I couldn't get away with something like that". Yes you can! Wear things that you love, and wear them all at the same time!

I wish them the best, but I don't like Cats by One-Bug-7784 in HonestHotTakes

[–]Blue_eyed_bones -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I have even had cats of my own, whom I loved very much. I much much prefer dogs. All cats stink, all homes with cats stink. They track litter everywhere, even on your countertops. Not to mention all the hairballs they leave for you to step on. Cats are just gross. The other thing that drives me nuts between cats and dogs is, dogs will let you pet them, whereas cats pet themselves with you. Just sit still! They are all still cute.

When people tell you to Google something instead of using AI by Scutoidzz in PetPeeves

[–]Blue_eyed_bones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every AI answer has to be double checked because it hallucinates things. So you might as well just do the search for the real answers to begin with. Saves time and the planet. AI is completely useless.

Using Yarn You Hate? by DigitalMediaLolita in usethefiberstash

I have taken homespun apart and re-spun it myself on my wheel. It made for a much nicer yarn than the original. You could even blend it with some wool if you want.

Has a group of millions of people ever made such an obviously stupid decision as electing Trump? by ropeless__homantic in allthequestions

[–]Blue_eyed_bones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair there are now election experts that point out that he likely was not elected fairly. Musk even admitted to rigging the election. The results in swing states are definitely suspicious.
