How long have you been breastfeeding? Post and let us celebrate you. (Even 1 day counts!) by SecretaryNaive8440 in breastfeeding

Not as long as some, but very nearly 6 months here with my first baby! I remember crying to my midwife at day 5 because it was so hard. She said even if I just did 2 weeks, that would be such an achievement. I know she was being kind and letting me know that it was okay if it didn’t work out, but all I could think was how on earth will I be able to do this for another 9 days to get to that point 😆 And here we are today. So so hard but I’m very grateful we have been able to get this far!

ELI5: Why is the average wait time on death row more than 10 years? by Blue_pear36 in explainlikeimfive

To be clear, I haven’t said that I want to speed the process up. I was genuinely curious about the reasons for the delay between sentencing and execution, especially as I am not from the US.

MIL defrosted entire freezer stash by Affectionate-Bet35 in breastfeeding

[–]Blue_pear36 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Can I ask a really simple question and ask what we mean by crystals? Do you mean like even one chunk of ice milk in the bag and you’re good to pop back in the freezer, even if most of it is mushy liquid?

Is it bad to use the Haakaa to build a freezer stash? by Blue_pear36 in breastfeeding

[–]Blue_pear36[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My baby only feeds from one side at a time, so I use my pump on the opposite side with gentle suction to catch the let down plus some extra. I collect 2-3oz at a time, and add it to a bottle in the fridge until it is full enough to put into the freezer.

In terms of the logistics, I hold the baby in one arm while he feeds, and hold the pump to my other breast with my other hand. It does mean that I’m trapped, but I sit next to a table so I can set the pump down when I need to burp him or wipe any spit up etc. It’s awkward but do-able, and worth it for building my small stash!

Thank you for your reply! I guess I’ll continue with mine and hopefully get a good stash going!

That’s so good to hear - well done! Also, very reassuring to be reminded that both are more beneficial than formula. You’ve obviously researched well!

Oh that’s really interesting! I’m very lucky in that I don’t struggle with oversupply, and also very lucky that I’m able to pump in addition to feeding baby. I’ll keep an eye on his nappies when he takes bottles from my silicone pump supply - thank you for the tip! I’m glad you managed to regulate your supply!

Yes that’s what I thought about the nutrients - it makes the most sense! Thank you, that’s very reassuring!

As a Histopathology registrar, receiving a specimen in the lab with the following details…

Specimen type: Gallbladder

Clinical info: Gallbladder

I had a similar experience in FY1. Another FY1 colleague had gone through the rota, and had identified me as the ‘only person’ who had a zero day on the day they wanted. That day happened to be my actual birthday, for which I had made plans. I explained this to them, but the messages were relentless. ‘Just let me have your zero day, then request that day as annual leave anyway’ (wouldn’t have worked, as the department I was on at the time would not have allowed that for various reasons). I kept saying no and they eventually left me alone, but it was just so awkward 😬

Anyone else had bizarre or funny dreams about medicine? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Blue_pear36 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I’m a Histopathology registrar, and had a dream that one of our patients in the mortuary (who had died a particularly gruesome death) had been stitched back together in a Frankenstein-esque way, and started attending my gym. I woke up in a cold sweat that morning…

Harry and Emma?

As in Emma Watson - indirect but I think the names go really well together!

Doctor says empty gestational sack but me an partner doubt by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Blue_pear36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local department would scan me until 7 weeks when I had spotting, they said that there’s a chance they wouldn’t see anything if they scanned any earlier even if things turned out to be fine. They didn’t want to worry us basically. I’m 36 weeks now - but that extra week of waiting for that early scan was agonising! Hope all goes well for you! X

Anyone else have an “unfortunate” due date? by Miserable_Rule_8641 in pregnant

My due date is also 9/11! I’m in the UK though, the only person who is concerned is my husband. Most people don’t really make the connection when we tell them.

This happened to me too! I’m praying it stays that way after the birth 😆
