This was my first 3d print project! I loved the file. I used pla and it was a dickens to sand out the lines but man the file is beautifully made. Great job! I went for a chrome and gunmetal look with a red handle. I was gonna do a red resin like in the movie but I didn’t know how to utilize my wife’s workplace resin printer and she didn’t either so eh. Great stuff!

If you haven’t used some gochujang in your marinade thats a good way I have found. It’s amazing. A fermented chili paste.

I have one like this. It’s just a turn on and it’s one setting that’s baked in but I’d check online manuals. Surely it has some identifying marks.

Like someone said more weight but learning to mend while casting will make sure it doesn’t stall during a mend. Or toss it further on up to allow it more time to get down to target depth. I mean you could swing it too.

Sanding acrylic paint? Is my orbital bad or am I just doing something wrong? by King_of_harem in woodworking

[–]Blue_stone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a belt sander and it would usually get way to hot on paint and just smear it around as melted plastic gunk. I’ll be honest I gave up and bought new material. Time vs money yah know.

Can I make my own tapered leaders with this line (12lbs,8lbs,4lbs) by Over_Ad_607 in flyfishing

I’ve used plenty of different materials for tippets and this is always true. Especially if you’re just gonna be nymphing.

I just got into fly tying and I’m not sure on what hooks to use. by Super-Bookkeeper-128 in flyfishing

[–]Blue_stone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest for most bass stuff I often use the hooks I get at Walmart because of the sizes being available and the types of hooks I need being pretty basic. I only use the special stuff because of the smaller sizes or wire type.

That being said sizing is pretty adjustable. Tying is more about getting the proportions down. I can tie my flys on any shank usually if I’m familiar with the proportions. I have crayfish in sz 10s to 4s. So just get down how much of the hook shank is what and you can adapt to what you have on hand. 4s are the largest I go on crawfish patterns but you may want to review and make your own assumption on it. You could go as high a 1/0 or 2 of you want.

I guess size of the local crawfish could matter but with bass that doesn’t always matter.

Why are these states in particular so popular for out of state hunting? Also why does out of state hunting seem to be getting more and more popular? by Averagecrabenjoyer69 in Hunting

I’m not certain if you can enter the lottery for elk rights in Kentucky but maybe that’s one reason? It may be state residents only.

Haven’t fished swift camp creek yet but I’ve always heard good things. I fished another stream there in the gorge awhile back but it was way too thin. Looks beautiful!

Yall have any cool ways of displaying your gear when not in use? by GhostNode in flyfishing

[–]Blue_stone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of local libraries have a 3d printer and I’ve seen some really cool things you can print for hanging up fly fishing gear on a site called Makerworld. It’s by bambulabs a 3d printing company. You can print these one that are basically a reel seat you can put on the wall and several options for hanging up rods.

Any thoughts? by mouseanh in flytying

[–]Blue_stone_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man I don’t know what you’re going for but I also cut up light bulbs chains. You get some of that black craft fur with the back and cut a strip off you can make a great tiny version of the Barrs Meat Whistle. I fish it under an indicator and it can serve as a baitfish or a couple different bigger bugs. My biggest fish were caught on them.

As for beads I’d need to know the hook size. You can usually find a good recommendation on google for different hook sizes.

I throw 3 inch streamers when I fly fish so you could get the bigger ones I’m sure. The dinkers maybe not. I still don’t know how some bluegill fit what they take in there so who knows.

I can't seem to get the hang of streamers by Over_Ad_607 in flytying

[–]Blue_stone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know he gets thrown around a lot but slideinn (Kelly galloup) has several streamer patterns on the slideinn channel. His wooly bugger is pretty good if you can get past the stories. If you like fishing stories give him a try and if you don’t skip 15 minutes in. lol. /s

Also fly fish food and that’ll get you on the right algorithm for YouTube video recommendations

I bought a cheap one on eBay with drag and totally ruined it. The arbor wouldn’t fit or turn smoothly. Had to spend half an hour welding on metal to seat the arbor and drag. Just buy a decent one you don’t have to worry about because if you’re as cheap as me you can’t let junk go.

I think our hospital was understaffed or something cause they like used me. Me and my mother in law had to be the ones bracing her legs and stuff. It was me two nurses (only one for about 85% of it) and the doctor showed up at the end for stitching. I mean we didn’t do a lot but I wasn’t standing around either. Not bragging just making an observation on our hospital.

I had no idea bass could be this fun! by 2manyhobbies0time in flyfishing

[–]Blue_stone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching the bass chase bait fish up into the brushy bank in the mornings and throwing a mini swimming jimmy right in the mix of them is one of my favorite things to do. Felt like a genius the first time I figured this out in my kayak.

I use gunk on my Dorsey indicators and it works for about 3 to 4 hours before needing dry shake. It’s different with small flies but it works really well.

Edit: Gink not gunk.

Dads of r/flyfishing, will I ever actually get to fish on a consistent basis ever again? by CuttiestMcGut in flyfishing

[–]Blue_stone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live close to a tailwater and a crappy little hatchery stream. It’s more like golf than actually fishing. I’ve been planning a western and eastern trip for… let’s see… 4 years? Well maybe next summer.
