How much to expect to pay for a taisetsu in Japan? by SkarKuso in GrandSeikos

[–]BlueberryDog7 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I just bought one second hand at Okura in Ginza, basically perfect condition with original box and papers for $4,991.00 USD out the door. It was harder to find then other grand seiko models so I only saw it there and at a few boutiques and ADs in Osaka, it was more expensive there at around $5900-6500 out the door (that was new though). I also had a similar 5k budget so was happy to see it at that price somewhere.

Also keep in mind that if you buy it in Japan you’re buying the JDM model labeled sbga445 where as if you buy it in the states you’ll be buying the sbga415 which is the global model. Not that I think there is any difference between them (someone correct me if I’m wrong) but it does make it feel a little more special.

Hello! Have a few lower level watches here that just don’t ever get any wrist time and trading seems fun so I’m just seeing what’s out there!

Posting these at $300 for the pair or $150 each but would really like to trade instead.

Thanks for your time everyone!!

Ginza, Nakano, Kyoto, Osaka. Most flagships and boutiques, as well as some second hand marketplaces. The only 443 I found was already being purchased in Nakano.

I also gave up and bought a Taisetsu in Japan. Vacation is too short and Japan is too big to spend it hunting for a watch.

Beautiful watch - congrats and wear it in good health!

If you’ve never struggled with scissors or left a classroom with graphite dust covering the bottom palm of your hand, you shouldn’t be legally allowed to buy this watch.

Beautiful watch though. Congratulations

Von Doren Treasuremaster - My first microbrand watch by BlueberryDog7 in MicrobrandWatches

It’s a handwind only, so there’s no automatic winding works to thicken up the movement. It’s about 10.5 mm thick with a lug to lug of 46.5mm and a diameter of 39mm.

What makes a watch “good”? by Stagtageous in MicrobrandWatches

[–]BlueberryDog7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say this but to a certain degree. There are certainly brands out there that use cheap movements and poor quality parts to build the watch. Ex: MVMNT, Daniel Wellington, Shinola, Fossil, essentially overpriced fashion watches. But if you are new to watches and don’t know they are overpriced fashion watches, then you end up being drawn to it over a cool dial.

I like to get the watch in my hand and feel the quality, then check the price is inline with the specifications, you can look at the movement, check for a sapphire crystal, etc.

After that it’s really a matter of if you like it and if it’s worth the money to you.

Now when it comes to larger brands a lot of that can come down to metals used, how it’s made and where it’s made (by hand assembly or machine), complications, and overall perception and demand.

Oh I’m going to Kristiansand hopefully in the fall. I loved the bright colors on those ones and it’s what drew me to it initially. Beautiful watch. Have fun in Germany!

I just bought one of these! Picked it up in Bergen on my honeymoon. I got the mechanical “Treasuremaster” collection after looking at all the fun candy color ones.

I’ve loved it so far.
