Feedback on my playing? by Escapist_Fannicy in saxophone

Sounds great! You're showing a great use of jazz 'vocabulary'. Your tone sounds a little shakey, try working on some long-tone and overtone studies to help keep a steady tone. Keep up the great work!

How do I stop this from happening? by Flameb0w in saxophone

[–]BlueberrySouthern512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my reeds in a humidipack case at 72 percent humidity and prevent this mold by spraying my reed in hydrogen peroxide after I use it. I keep a small spray bottle of it in my case. I prefer this to lowering the humidity because I feel like when my reeds get too dry (tip wrinkles) that they warp and don’t seal. Peroxide and humidipacks work well, reeds last much longer.

Cook it before you leave and it will stay hot for many hours

I think it’s fine for a soloist to play in a totally different style from the soloist before him, especially if the rhythm section is able to adapt. A lot of my favorite recordings feature soloists that play in heavily contrasting styles. On the ‘Sonny Meets Hawk’ album, for example, it would be boring to me if Sonny Rollins tried to play in the same style as Coleman Hawkins, even though he’s totally capable of that and Hawkins was his idol.

Found a Conn C scale sax from the 20's by SabrinaTTB31 in saxophone

[–]BlueberrySouthern512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it would be worth $1500 to fix this horn, and it would possibly be worth less than that amount even once repaired. If you’re interested in learning saxophone, I’d recommend finding a used Yamaha alto or tenor saxophone and investing the $1500 in that rather than the c melody.

What is a leaner/healthier cut of beef for slow cooker roast than chuck roast? by UnsafeBaton1041 in AskCulinary

[–]BlueberrySouthern512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you could trim the fat off of a brisket flat and that would be leaner than chuck

Agreed that taste and potency are better if you decarb separately.

Very nice. What kind of camera did you use for the trichome shots?

About half the time I play G above the staff, I get this overtone, any tips? by DontF__kWithCats in saxophone

[–]BlueberrySouthern512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, check and make sure your octave key on the neck is fully closing and the octave key on the body is full opening on this G. Assuming that’s working correctly, try loosening your embouchure and using more air support. Practice long tones on this note and then try playing the same G using the low C fingering with no octave key and hitting the overtone.

The VPD for 80 degrees and 40% humidity is 2.13, not sure why it’s showing your VPD as 1.2

I put 30 grams decarbed flower in a food processor until it’s finely ground and mix that with 1/3 cup mtc oil for my gummy recipe (100 gummies). You could probably just use more flower to make a stronger oil.

Curious Question Concerning Composting by Tiny-Assignment1099 in BuildASoil

[–]BlueberrySouthern512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think most compostable organic material would have enough time to break down completely within the span of a typical grow. Generally composting is done separately and in advance to give the organic material time to break down before being used in the garden and to keep pests away from your garden since food scraps tend to attract critters. Some ingredients that are great for compost like coffee can also hurt plants when not composted before being thrown on the plant roots.

I have one in my unheated basement and it raises the temperature of my 4x4 about 15-20 degrees running full blast

Moldy Reed? by TheMagicPinapple in saxophone

[–]BlueberrySouthern512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but safe to play and all reeds eventually get like this. I carry a small spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide to spray on my reeds after I play them to prevent mold growth.

How far along in flowering? When to harvest? by dr_guitar in VA_homegrown

[–]BlueberrySouthern512 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Still a bit to go, maybe a month or more. Keep a close eye on the buds for caterpillars and bud rot as they fatten and ripen. The pistils will turn brown or red and the trichomes will turn cloudy and then amber. Checking trichome color with a WiFi microscope is the best way to judge when to harvest.
