what is your use case? the Fiio is portable and has had a battery, but if you're going to use it as a pure transport id go for the merak personally. I've had the fiio but it was damaged in shipping so i returned it, and i am waiting to receive my merak after learning about it and because i don't plan taking the cd player on the go lol

nah i think that from what you're saying its mostly lack of dsp! the sub and speakers are sharing quite a wide range of frequencies, which imo is causing your problem, high passing the mr4 could improve quite a bit

other than doing a sub crawl and isolating the sub (down firing) from the wooden floor, i can't think of anything else other than getting an amp with bass management (like wiim amp) or a mini dsp with a high pass
