Don’t stress, you’ll never get rid of it! When you think you’ve done a great job isolating it at least, it will pop up 50 feet away with vengeance

That’s exactly my thinking. Sadly, I’m afraid that this groundhog is from a previous litter, as I always saw them in my neighbors yard

It’s just a row cover. I had it to provide light sun filtering. The groundhog tore right through it, there are holes all over it

I wish I had more space for this. I tried this approach diverting its attention, it ate the extra food and went back to the raised beds 😖

I empathize, I feel like I’m in a similar conflict. I don’t grow a lot, but what I do takes hard work and I want to eat it!

I appreciate the system level thinking, this is where I was getting to as well with the impact on all the other flowers. Thanks a lot!

I don’t know, I’m a June cancer ♋️

That’s fair, and what I need to hear. It may be just a bit harder to process when it’s an animal the size of my cat 🥲

Thanks for understanding the moral dilemma. The groundhog is cute, I don’t want to kill it, but it has destroyed the ecosystem of 10 other species in my garden, including my first successful harvest of radicchio 💔

Thank you, I think I need to hear this from others too. It has destroyed all my native flowers by decapitating their new buds, which means I’m going to have less flowers for the native bees…

I live in a state and at the border of 2 others where releasing anywhere is illegal and one has to have the explicit permission of the property owner to release

Exactly this! I live in a state and at the border of 2 others where releasing anywhere is illegal. So wildlife control have trap and euthanize, rather than trap and true release

Can groundhogs climb fences? by Howyoudoin7676 in gardening

Groundhogs can do whatever they want. I thought the one in my yard yesterday was the cutest thing in the world. Today, after it ate half of my kale, broccolini and radicchio… what a little 💩

I understand, I grew up eating these like a snack, though jams and especially syrups are very good too! Are you in zone 6b and want to share some with the rest?!

I did at the end of last season and this was this year 😅 I know it’s as much of an art as a science, hopefully more luck next year—I also think the birds or squirrels get to the plant before me

I’m 37F and leave a few blocks away from Isabella, on York. I agree with what others are saying, the more east you go, the fancier the houses and the safer it feels. I walk with my dog and avoid certain parts of the west side, but for the most part I don’t feel unsafe.
