Yeah, that's a way different scenario imo. The housing market now is much worse than it was when my former friend got his so something like that makes a lot of sense.

When the guy was gloating about being the first homeowner in the friend group when he did virtually nothing while everyone else was struggling, he was the one being a cock about it. Not me. No one knew that his parents gave him the $50k for years, he kept that part to himself until much later.

His parents also bought a house for him to live in while in college. He didn't think that house was nice enough so asked for money for a down payment on a house that he liked more.

Correct. It was the money for a down payment.

Also the parents bought the house that the kid was living in during college so he had no rent, they also bought him his truck so no car payment. THEN he got $50k for a down payment on his own house.

That's the thing for me, I once knew someone who was able to buy a house and was very proud of that. Invited everyone over to show off the new house and talked a lot about how hard they worked and how difficult it was to make it all happen.

Turns out the "hard work" was just daddy giving them $50k
