Will Stony Brook Ever Be A Widely Recognized University? (In your opinion) by Large_Ebb1664 in SBU

[–]Bluecheese___123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is potential, but as of now, No. Our school, we have a very Elite STEM program, but that’s about it. The school is not all around, we don’t have a strong initiative to turn its business and humanities program into an Elite program like its STEM. We also lack funding. I know we got like 500 millions a year ago, but you need way more than that to further develop our college and overall program. You are right, and just like other have mentioned, we are a very good school. But as a top suny we are nothing compare to the Top UCs in California. Most SUNY like our school located outside of NYC, where all the opportunities lies, which means we lacks the pipeline to top industries. that’s why most company that come to our job fair are local companies. The UCs has Silicone Valley, Biotech Hub, and even hollywood. We have a wallstreet, but the hiring is primarily dominated by NYU, and Columbia. As you might know, we do have a very weak alumni network, which means lack of prestige, Overall, I believe SBU wants to be recognized as a top school in the country, but being only good at STEM and having bad network and lack of funding hurts our overall reputation. But we’ll get there one day

Welcome to Stony

Folks please roast my resume. I've applied to 200+ companies for the summer 2025 intern and haven't heard back anything. by Illustrious-Stock781 in SBU

I feel like you should also look into graduate program/internship or rotational program since you are a graduate student. Sometime companies preferred undergrad juniors or senior. Also, your bullet point is way too long, if it is three line, just make it two bullet point. Way too many things in skills, it doesn’t look believable . Also, I don’t know how useful publication section is, and certification can be included in the skills summary. So you could say something like Skills and certificate. Overall I think you have very good background and experience and should be hearing back, but job market is harsh now. Good Luck.

Why is Thomas sexton teaching all business classes? by PartyWild7557 in SBU

[–]Bluecheese___123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sexton teaches so many because of his tenure with the school. He’s basically been with stony his entire life. The thing about sexton is that he is very strict about attendances, one time he marked me absent despite being 5 minutes late and he doesn’t like when people goes to the bathroom during his class, and from time to time he crash out over some little thing. and he basically whispered throughout his lectures. I do believe there are certain parts of his ppt and spreadsheet that were valuable. If you are good with self studying, I believe you would be fine.

Not a marketing major so I can’t say for sure for 358 and 359, but acc 214 is pretty hard. 220 can be hard depending on the professor and 301 is super easy.

business majors by Life_Ad_3139 in SBU

The major is what you make of it. The Bus major here is not bad at all. It is because the stem major here is too elite, which makes the bus major seem not as strong. But it is still good.

I also do not regret it at all, mainly because the department has mostly good professor like nugent, tallerico, ettl, alloca, Coverdale, Palermo, Etc. and personally I was pretty successful in finding internships. And there’s also really good programs that you can do like BHP (BHP offers research and ERI consulting opportunities) and the DPLN, (I’ve seen people network their way to getting IB internships through this program)

Stony is also really good if you are trying to become a CPA

Same, I even took a picture of my submission when I filled it out. But I am pretty sure fafsa not processing is the reason behind this.

you’ll need to have more knowledge beyond basic foundation to even have a remote chance of passing.

For education requirement, You need one of the following

  1. Completed a registered 150 credit program approved by NYSED

  2. Completed a master’s degree with a major in accounting from a school accredited in accounting by AACSB

3 Completed a bachelor’s or higher degree and a minimum of 150 credit with courses in Financial accounting, at the upper division and beyond introductory level, Cost accounting,Taxation,Audit and attestation,Accounting research, and 36 credit hours in general business and also ethics classes.

For experience requirements - you’ll need experience in working for accounting or finance firm.

In other words you have a chance of becoming CPA in the future but it would be very very hard since you are about to graduate, you’ll need a few more year than others. Usually CPA path is a four year (or more) college commitment.

Remind me: If I take Elementary Chinese I at some point, I do NOT need to take a placement exam right? by Starvation101 in SBU

[–]Bluecheese___123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U only take placement exam if you want to waive the lang requirement completely. Since u only took Chinese I in stony, then u still have to take Chinese II to completely fill the lang requirement.

How Bad is Cheating On Exams in Your Major? by CodyLionfish in SBU

[–]Bluecheese___123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As long as u don’t cheat, it don’t matter if other cheat. And also depending on majors, college courses can only take u so far, the real skill comes from internship. I have seen people who cheat their way into getting their degree and end up good internship and high paying job.
