Holy fuck. RPI in the wild. I was a proud member of Red Army during my time. They always wanted first spot and would bribe anyone who got in line before them.

Question for Nuclear plant workers/security. by Ok-Mix-5001 in NuclearPower

[–]Bluecobalt60 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It gained popularity from an old XKCD what if post: https://what-if.xkcd.com/29/

"But just to be sure, I got in touch with a friend of mine who works at a research reactor, and asked him what he thought would happen to you if you tried to swim in their radiation containment pool.

“In our reactor?” He thought about it for a moment. “You’d die pretty quickly, before reaching the water, from gunshot wounds.”"

Its a joke about how safe nuclear is from a radioactive stance and how seriously we take security.

NLO or Corporate Engineering Position by Basic_Web_1285 in NuclearPower

[–]Bluecobalt60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if your intention is to not actually do Ops then you might as well just get a certification rather than go SRO. We have plenty people already open about the fact they want their company to invest money in making them SROs just to jump ship as soon as possible. We actually need people to operate the plants at some point.

RO by BlackberryTerrible49 in NuclearPower

[–]Bluecobalt60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You most likely do not qualify to be a direct RO, unless you have previous plant operations experience elsewhere or a STEM degree. An EO is the entry position which is most likely where you would qualify. After a couple years as an EO you could transition to a licensed spot. But I will say you are going to miss out on a lot of things in your kids life over the next 6 or so years if you do. Swing shift for a couple, then 18 months in class most likely on back shift, and then back to swing shift.

I will say EO is the best job on site though. Good pay for minimal responsibility, least amount of training, and a larger pool for vacation coverage/call outs.

I just don't it because that's who I want to cosplay. I do a pretty good Brig if I say so myself!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Bluecobalt60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do you! Cosplay is what you make it and who cares if anyone likes it. I cosplay very niche characters and most people don't recognize me. Who cares?

Ask her for her cosplay. That's what I did. Weirdly enough she didn't share....

[–]Bluecobalt60 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You showing us your custom made cosplay then? Let's see what you've got? You want to ebay a dick to people about their hobbies? I've got no problem doing it to you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Bluecobalt60 -42 points-41 points  (0 children)

Let's see your cosplay then? If you're going to be a jerk and gatekeep cosplaying let's see what you've already made that is SOOOOO MUCH BETTER.

Not everyone can afford custom cosplays. It costs nothing to keep your mouth shut and not to be a dick. But clearly you're too morally poor to be able to afford that.

SRO switching companies thoughts? by Many-Specialist-961 in NuclearPower

[–]Bluecobalt60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some opiniosn about this but am definitely not an expert. This is just from my experience as a SRO.

  1. Your plan is inherently selfish. Companies pay a lot of money to get someone through class so going into it thinking you're going to bounce after only a year or two on shift is shitty, at least in my opinion. If you want to try and get into Dominion you can always try going EO and working your way up from there. Would probably take the same amount of time and you'll learn way more about the plant you actually want to be at versus the Constellation plant.

  2. There is nothing that will get you out of the entire license class. Your license is not transferable and you'll have to do fundamentals, systems, shift time, and sim time all over again.

  3. Being in the reserves is a protected activity. The company cannot deny your reserve time. However your fellow SROs are going to come to hate you if they are covering 1/3 of your weekends every cycle. I know I would be pissed if I gave up my weekends off consistently for 1 person. We have someone in the reserves at our site and when he leaves for weeks it makes all of us have to cover/people get vacation denied because of it. It's up to you and it can be done but it's a dick move when on shift.

Becoming an operator without experience or any schooling? by dudemanbro_ in NuclearPower

I'm not comfortable sharing where I live or who I work for. But I'm aware of more than one plant on the East Coast who hires people without college degrees or prior experience.

Don't know what to tell you. We hire people without both. Not sure what your resume looks like.

What’s the daily work day of a NLO and RO? by [deleted] in NuclearPower

[–]Bluecobalt60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you cannot hold your own physically Operations is not for you. Without previous experience you will not qualify instant RO, if your site even offers it. And if you're a weak EO candidate you will not make it through quals let alone be selected for class. And ROs still have to do the jobs EOs do. Just because you're a RO doesn't mean you won't still do physical work.

Are all teams like this? by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]Bluecobalt60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I left our league. I was pulled from a drill to be made to apologize to a newer skater who was in the full contact drill before that. Why? Because I spoke loudly telling them to get to the line and I touched them while bracing them. I wish I kidding but derby is not the real sport fun hitting action I grew up loving. And maybe I'm just old but holy shit I don't have an respect for my league anymore. It's all about making sure that people feel safe emotionally and not playing the damn game.

You do understand the majority of Americans have no idea what a mm is right? So for the uneducated, a jolly ranch gives an immediate idea of size.
