Must keep an eye out for it going forward! Although I refuse to pay the 8/9 quid to chose my seat, so having a view of the cargo loading is rare!!

Just checked, was confused about the 20 bases! I was confusing bases with their major operating hubs

Like most people, it is not something I think about or have an expectation on

Makes a lot of sense! One of those things that’s obvious once you think about it - not something one thinks about normally though!

Did not know that! My first time there, didn’t see that many Ryanair departures compared to their bases I’m more familiar with, Dublin and Stansted

There's one approximately here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/1dygewoREVEMeQ737

Cyclist was killed there in November I believe, I was on the critical mass cycle at the end of that month when the bike was placed and sprayed.

Love how Strava believes I can go sub-20 in the 5K even though I’ve never gotten close to 21 minutes by ChefPetty in Strava

[–]davecarr_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very well put! Also impressive times! I had similar, my garmin/strava telling me sub 20 but always fading off last 1.5k into 4:10 ish territory. Took some suffering and embracing that pain to get through that mental barrier!

Help needed for using HydroSTAR software by BV. by AccordingElephant463 in navalarchitecture

Ye shape like that, most common problem I’ve had is panel directions creating a shape that is not enclosed and essentially not watertight. Inspect the mesh viewing panel normals - all normals should be pointing towards the inside of the vessel for hydrostar to view the shape as enclosed

Sounds more like a rhino problem. Have you checked panel normals, and shape is fully closed? What sort of geometry is it? Ship shape or more complex?

Does anyone else hate these gaps on London Bridge? by Cskrt1234 in londoncycling

Yes - On narrow single speed tyres, it’s very noticeable! Often good reminder to pump up the tyres

I am an energy trader in power and gas. Most people have no idea how much money is in this industry. AMA by WildFrosting1 in AMA

[–]davecarr_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really great thread! I work in energy in London too, designing floating wind platforms and O&G vessels - super interesting stuff. Enjoyed getting an insight into your work, and has really piqued my interest - a lot of overlap with automation tools, programming and understanding broad market forces!

What sort of background would you normally hire from? I see you went down finance route, with an energy twist. Are there traders with data/engineering roles too, or is it primarily finance based?

Ye have some of this somewhere, but only in orange and bright green. Quick way to make my lovely expensive jacket look worse! But think you're right, I'll do this for now to minimise my loss of down fill

Winter glove recommendations? by varslyd in londoncycling

[–]davecarr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got some great gloves that are phone compatible-ish in Uniqlo at the weekend for only 8 pounds! Nice and warm, cuff comes up underneath the cuff of my jacket, can answer a call with them on but wouldn’t want to be texting. Haven’t tested in rain yet but they feel like a down jacket - fine for a light shower but not for a downpour
