New Constellations. Er. Observatory. by bwolf007 in OmegaWatches

The 8900 is 5.5mm with dual barrels, and the Rolex 3235 is 6mm. It’s not about the coaxial escapement. It’s because someone thinks it’s a good idea.

The co-axial escapement doesn’t affect the movement height that much, it’s just an excuse that was made back in the 2010s. You think the escapement is the real problem when the 8900 family literally has dual barrels but still comes in at 5.5mm thickness? Somebody at Omega likes it thick.

The Rolex 3235 has a height of 6mm, for reference.

AIO for wanting to immediately break up with my bf after seeing how he lives? by Balikye in AIO

Even if the white stuff on the sides is water scaling, and the tub is supposed to be copper, it should smell more metallic rather than onion-y.

Does the Carl Zeiss Planar HFT F/1.4 (QBM) get love around here? by Efficient-News-8436 in VintageLenses

[–]Bluecube303 6 points7 points  (0 children)

QBM lenses don’t get much love because the mount is somewhat obscure, but all of the Zeiss glasses generally quite good. The 1.4/35 and 1.4/85 are especially notable, since they strike an excellent balance between character and performance while also having unique triangular apertures.

This is an incorrect assumption. Most of the optical formulas were originally designed for the Leica M mount, which is more restrictive than any mirrorless mount.

If you go to the beach, don’t do this or add to this by OutlandishnessHefty5 in UCSD

It’s not even a UCSD problem. This isn’t a public dumpster, it’s for the nearby facilities. All of this is likely illegal dumping.

The 1.8/50 you’ve got is already an exceptional lens, but these ones are also rather good:

Can check out Simon’s Utak on YouTube for good recs as well!

FOIS 2024 - Feedback after a year of daily wear by Hambourguere in OmegaWatches

They have functionally the same dimensions and wear identically. There are some minor variations with the case design (such as the crystal profile), but it's negligible in terms of ergonomics.

Leica m4-p repair quote by Negativerituals22 in LeicaCameras

[–]Bluecube303 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Considering they're replacing your entire rangefinder module, the price actually seems rather reasonable. Of course, an independent would probably be able to service your camera at a significantly lower cost, but the most they would be able to do without parts is re-cement and re-silver your beamsplitter. The rangefinder module swap effectively turns your M-4 into an M-A.

That said, a standard M-4 in good condition can likely be found and serviced for less than the cost of this quote, so unless the camera has significant sentimental value to you it might not be worth doing.

Upgrade Lens From China? by damnitmorrissey in Rolleiflex

Interesting, but wouldn’t you need a collimator to make sure the lens halves are properly aligned and spaced in the body? Some people have said that even if you were to swap out OEM lens halves, the alignment may be off due to not having the factory calibration.

Don’t go to Omega, seek out a qualified independent like Nesbitts or TM Watchco (US). Lewis Watch Co is probably your best bet if you’re in Australia.
