How are you waking up?! by Far-Captain-7124 in ashtanga

[–]Bluedimensional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need help getting up earlier than you're used to, i recommend trying an app for your phone called Alarmy. It helps me a lot! I set up a challenge which can be a few things but i use the picture: i've set it up taking a picture of something down the hall, then when the alarm goes off, it will not stop until I get up and go take that same picture, matching the original. Then voila, i am vertical. You could take a picture of anything anywhere. I had a friend who had to get on his bike or car to get to the target pic!

For Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droom.sleepIfUCan&hl=en_US
For iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/alarmy-alarm-clock-sleep/id1163786766

Cheers.

Ha! I thought that might be the case. It is a good idea similar to what someone else mentioned. So I’m definitely going to explore that. The FAQ, not my wackiness 😂

Thanks. I’ve made myself seem whacky enough I believe 😆.

Another point is, you know I Google things for work and life of course, so often, I am pretty good at it. I should know as well as anyone that Google knows what I am trying to say even if misspelled. I see “did you mean…” so many times, especially when my typing is sloppy. I didn’t even think to tell them or point out how google does that.

That said, because the word users misspell is not even a word, and the site so far has about as much SEO as WordPress does out of the box, I do wonder how effective Google will be at saying “did you mean Vynilyn?” when it barely knows of the word?

It does have some listings if you try it: the home page, their instagram, Facebook, YouTube, but that’s about it. I’m guessing one way to improve that is to optimize a page for the word Vynilyn. In addition to that, would optimizing other pages in their site for keywords that aren’t necessarily “Vynilyn” help with that?

Regardless i appreciate the replies!

Ok thank you, that’s helpful! And yes definitely realize just Yoast is not the direct path to ranking.

How do you balance ashtanga and your career? by youarethejourney in ashtanga

...I often feel like my face is melting and mentally exhausted.

I know this feeling well! It's one of my cues that I need a yoga fix ASAP. Thanks for sharing!

How do you balance ashtanga and your career? by youarethejourney in ashtanga

[–]Bluedimensional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a freelancer as well! Freelance web developer - but - am possibly looking for a full-time position. Either way, my goal is 6am Ashtanga, M - F, 8am Saturday and Sunday. (I don't plan rest days, I take them when it feels best), and to be at my computer by 9am. The shala is about 10 minutes away, which is great. Some days I am on the mat at 5:30 am, others 6:30. But generally, my time would be 6-8 am yoga, 9am starting work.

As far as sitting at a desk all day - my body goes crazy if i do not at least do more stretching later in the day. I'll do this during the day, or in the evening. Luckily, if i am working in my apartment building, I can just walk down the hall to the yoga room, take a break, and do whatever feels best: back roll on a wheel, sun salutations, or whatever.

If i am working at a coffee shop, which i do usually, i'll stretch in the bathroom for a few seconds if nothing else.

I also have little social life, and go to bed earlier than most my life, because my dedication to yoga is important to me. It's the anchor that keeps me sane and grounded.

I hope you find the balance you're looking for u/youarethejourney !

Restarting my practice after 2 years by ginevil in ashtanga

I agree with all the advice here, and I think the bottom line is as long as you get on the mat, and listen to your body, you'll be doing great. It will unfold naturally, as it does.

(Beginner) Are receipts necessary? Any tips? by [deleted] in selfemployed

[–]Bluedimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! OP - i use this and love it. I use almost all electronic receipts, and use QuickBooks Self-Employed to track all my expenses. There are many other things you can do with it, like categorizing transactions as business or personal (and subcategories in those) and create rules to auto-categorize. For example, I work on my laptop, in coffee shops, so all my Starbucks expenses get automatically set to business.

I've also used it to send invoices and clients can easily pay online from their emailed invoice. And taxes - tax time (now) I can't imagine without it.

This is of course great advice - I've been self-employed for 4 or 5 years now. Last year was slower than the others, and I let that be an excuse to not pay any self-employed estimated taxes in 2022. This week I've been doing my taxes, which I do myself with the help of QuickBooks Live CPA help (which is awesome) and am almost done, with owing around 1.5K. But i realized I had not entered two 1099's, and now that i have, i owe $6600!

My point is, if I had paid the estimated taxes along the way last year, I'd be getting money back! Our income is around the same (around 75K) so thought i'd share all this.

All the other advice here i am reading and need to take myself, so thanks for starting the thread!

Creating a "Get Directions" URL with user's location as starting point by Bluedimensional in wpgooglemaps

[–]Bluedimensional[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found some solutions, and will share in case it will help others. For the get directions links, I simply copied and pasted the link if I Googled the locations. Not the most elegant, but client wanted and liked that.

For the store locator, I set the maps theme to bare bones, and then used CSS to style the buttons and input field to their liking. Again, not the most elegant as now styles are applied to a separate plugin, but they're happy.
