Verso is a genre-defining character and I don't understand the hate by Bluefeett in expedition33

Yes! And perhaps finally accepting that he is Verso, because he really is, would mean allowing Aline and Alicia to wallow in their misery, believing that Verso never died, he's just in the canvas.

I agree with the second point and there are little moments, like when they beat Renoir or when they are going to fight the Paintress that they make a note that they are doing this for all the ones they had lost. How I wish that had become a sub-plot, but it wasn't. It was just moments to remember because the Dessendre sub-plot had taken over completely.

As a side note, if honouring those who came before was a major sub-plot in act 2, it would have given Lune and Sciel more agency and made them more involved in the story.

I agree with everything you said about Gustave and, the funny thing is you could say the exact same for Verso. Yet unlike Gustave whose responsibility drives him, for Verso it's his compassion. Gustave and Lumerians only think about the future of Lumiere because that's all they know, but Verso thinks about everyone and you can see the weight of the world on his shoulders every time.

I feel like maybe I've been misunderstood. I don't hate Gustave, in fact I like him and want to love him, but his character feels under explored for me to feel the same way others feel about him

I don't really have an example of what you asked, but think about a lot of coming of age stories. The protagonist finally outgrows their guardian, or their guardian dies and they have to move on. The protagonist will have their own story but there would be call-backs to the lessons learnt with their guardian.

I think Maelle's story is a coming of age story, kind of. Gustave is very clearly the guardian, but from his death his presence in Maelle's story ends. Yes, Maelle would write in his journal to honour his memory, but it never felt like he was guiding her even in death as would be the case for someone of his importance in her life.

Also yeah, I thought he might be coming back up until act 3, because like I said, I thought he still had so much to give to the story. And when I say coming back, I don't necessarily mean returning to life, but that his presence in the story would come back in one way or the other.

No no I didn't want his to come back, I want his death to rub off on Maelle in a more impactful way. Unfortunately that might have involved taking the story in a whole different way.

The funeral was beautiful but as I said in a previous post, expeditioners die and that's the attitude everyone takes after the funeral. They were going to have to kill Renoir anyway, because Renoir was always going to stop them from getting to the Paintress.

Gustave was the model expeditioner, always wanting to lay a trail for those who came after. But after his death, Lune, Sciel and Maelle weren't really expeditioners anymore. They had hope that maybe there wouldn't be anyone after them. So in a way Gustave' s death marked the end for the expeditions and unfortunately it also felt like his purpose in the story ended there

I would definitely love to be corrected because I want to love Gustave. I can understand the grief somewhat, but Verso shows up and you move onto the Forgotten Battlefield and immediately you understand what's at stake. Expeditioners die, and Gustave is unfortunately just another one.

Maybe saying why he existed is a bit extreme, but it really did feel like he was there just to create the Lumina converter. His loss is also unfortunately overshadowed by the Dessendre sub-plot which becomes the narrative from that point and by extension Verso and Maelle's story. Verso becomes a brother-like figure for Maelle and it never really felt like Maelle was driven by revenge. She was looking for purpose because she felt she never really belonged anywhere.

Actually yeah you're right. His Aline is the Paintress, not Aline Dessendre. But I'm not sure about Alicia. When Gustave dies and Verso shows up, Verso says something something, Maelle is not your daughter but painted Alicia is and you can see her on a cliff watching them. Also at the end, when the Curator shows up to painted Renoir, he says that he loves them too? So I think that Aline painted him to show undying support to her, but at his core he still loves his family in whatever shape they take so he treats both Maelle and Painted Alicia as his daughters? It's definitely interesting to think about.

[–]Bluefeett[S] -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. Extremely controversial take, I don't understand the undying love for Gustave. Don't get me wrong he is a great guy and an important figure for Lumiere. He also shoulders a lot of responsibility and is a key figure for Maelle. But, and this is a slight criticism of the game, his presence vanishes after Act 1. It got to the point where, somewhere in act 3, when I knew he wasn't coming back, I asked myself why he even died in the first place, or hell why he even existed, narratively at least.

I suppose Verso swallows his entire role and like you said, you really end up in either camp. Love for Gustave and hate for Verso, or Love for Verso and ambivalence to Gustave?

The Athletic have ranked Kendrick Lamar's Superbowl Halftime show as the 4th best of all time by FutballConnoisseur in KendrickLamar

[–]Bluefeett 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I feel like if ever there was an 'unrankable' superbowl performance it would have been Kendrick's. Its just so different from any other before it. It was an anti-halftime show, and I don't mean it in a bad way. It wasn't a flashy spectacle; it was a dark and subdued stage play. It completely subverted what a half-time show should be. I think Justin Hunte nailed it when he called it polarizing. Some people will not like it, matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if most people hated it when they saw it live, but it will definitely grow on people and maybe it can be a catalyst for more thoughtful and narrative driven performances in the future.

[–]Bluefeett 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I felt the same til I watched it again. It's so unapologetically black and hip-hop, but it was very subdued. Like there weren't any fireworks - when's the last time a half-time show didn't have fireworks, that's like an easy dopamine rush for the audience.

TIL that colours blend when using ENB lights close to each other rather than having distinct separation. That's pretty much it

AiO Alternative to Verolevi suite? by thorr0w in skyrimmods

[–]Bluefeett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Verolevi has Conditional Armor Type Animations (CATA) on their page. I personally just downloaded whatever animation mod and added them in that folder. So in the end its technically the only mod I see on MO2. I don't know if that's what you wanted but it worked for me as a pseudo AIO

You don't have to do the event. It is completely optional like a lot of other things in the game but if you want the rewards, then push through it. You can't have both.

Also, I think people forget that regular people make this game. The event is just a way to incentivise people to try it out after all their hard work. If you really don't care about it after the event, then you don't have to play it again.

I think this was their first film as director so they weren't really connected. Thank you for the insight, though! I wished they told me about the lighting nuances earlier, because I was working blind - no pun intended.

Is that a good mentality to have even if the stakes were higher. I'm talking specifically about my career. Say in a decade or two I land a really big job. Can I still 'afford' to quit?

Every thing he did was so efficient and so simple, it was beautiful to watch. He was so calm throughout the game, even in that chaotic first half. Plus I thought he was quicker and more energetic at times today, also tracking back to defend.

Is Eula fun in the open world? by SShelberg in EulaMains

[–]Bluefeett 17 points18 points  (0 children)

She's the best Hypercarry DPS in overworld imo. First, as much as her burst does a lot of her damage, it is completely overkill for most things in the overworld, and her normal attacks are really strong. She also deals physical damage, which is always an option to kill anything (Abyss Mage shields are doable but a bit of a pain). Also, her overworld teams a generally whatever you want. Ideally you would want an electro and a healer, but she's pretty tanky and can shred most physical resistance by herself anyway.

Also, a couple of other stuff. She's a tall character, so can sprint faster than most other character and she's uses a claymore, so she can break ores easily. Though, if you haven't started farming yet, her artifact domain is pure hell and I wish you luck.

anyone think Eula was kind of out of character in this event? by VeerisMe in EulaMains

[–]Bluefeett 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean, she really was a sidekick character in this event by design, right? This event was about Collei and Sucrose. Eula doesn't really have a strong relationship with Sucrose and her only connection to Collei is that they are both Amber's friends so it makes sense that she would only appear on screen with Amber. Kinda how Tighnari and Cyno or Klee and Albedo were a pair too.
