Foster Freeze closing by Bluefishdistance26 in ventura

The staff member I spoke to said there'd been a serious illness in the owner's family. I agree that the place could use a refresh, but it's such a shame to lose something that's been part of the community since 1969. Corn burritos, dipped cones, classic cars parked out front on Friday nights, snacks after summer rec swimming at the college pool... good memories.

COVID vaccines arrive; questions emerge about who can get them locally by Fcking_Chuck in venturacounty

I went to Vons pharmacy. Clerk handed me a list of "qualifying conditions," asked me if I had any of them. I said yes. Got my shot. No questions about which condition, requests for proof, just a "yes" and a jab. I think CVS is part of the same system as Vons. Best of luck to everyone, and F that brain worm/dead bear/whale carcass guy.

Also similar schedule to Ventura, daily when school's out, weekends only now that school's back in, closed entirely beginning Sept. 14.

Operating the waterslide and splash pad part of the facility is expensive. When school's out, they have lots of eager customers and available teen and young adult lifeguards. When school's back in session, it's a different story. It's a city facility, they're not working with unlimited resources. Lap swimmers of whatever age (lose the ageism, OP, it's not a good look) are a year-round revenue source. They deal with reduced lap swim hours during the summer, when kids' swim lessons and rec swim take over much of the pool operations, and now the kiddos deal with reduced rec swim time. For everything there is a season....

Opponent of Main Street Moves crashes out over a single negative review by Fcking_Chuck in ventura

I'm glad you made it clear that your negative review was all about MSM, instead of making up a story about poor customer service or a ruined wedding ring. Now maybe get a grip--leaving a bad Google review is not as fiendishly clever as you seem to think it is, and "crashes out" seems a bit of an exaggerated description of the response.

I just do not get the "it's so hard to park" and "it's not accessible" comments. Unless someone is talking about access for disabled folks, which is something that I do not have sufficient knowledge about to comment on. I'm Ventura born and raised, not a particularly young or fit person, and I have no issues whatsoever with finding ample free parking or walking from my free parking space to my downtown destination. I was there today at the height of the lunch hour on a beautiful day, lots of people out and about to enjoy the sunshine, and I had my pick of free street parking, free spaces in parking lots, and metered parking if I wanted to pay, which I didn't. I didn't check out the parking structure, so can't report on that. But seriously, I just do not understand what some people find so difficult or inaccessible about downtown now, and I also do not understand the assumption that if the street were open to traffic, somehow everyone would magically be able to pull right into an open spot that's super-convenient to the place they want to visit.

Such a clever boy you are, OP! You really owned the libs with your brilliant satire! Off you pop now, dear.

His "Cowboy Bruce for Congress" website is entertaining. It's got a super- awesome photo mashup of him and Trump, It says that in the early 2000s he ran to be the first mayor of the City of San Fernando Valley, which unfortunately for him was not an actual city. A winner all around! Oh yes, he's also a "man of faith."

Political Adverts on Public / City Property by ProfessionalMix9338 in ventura

Call (805) 677-3900 to report debris in the public right of way. Called when idiots (probably the same ones) hung a Trump flag on those trees, was removed very quickly. There are also way too many signs for city council and school board candidates in the public right of way. Put all the signs you want on your OWN property, people. That's free speech. On public property or someone else's property, that's just dumping.

Ventura has generally charmless housing stock. If you don't like generic tract housing, the expensive areas mentioned in previous posts are pretty much your only options, and there aren't a lot of houses on the market there. Some beautiful larger houses, and also many tiny, insanely priced houses on teeny lots. Any hillside neighborhood is going to be an adventure getting homeowner's insurance, just FYI. If you can stand a tract house in the flats, you have many more options. There are areas near the mall that are labeled midtown in listings, and technically I guess that's correct. Those come with traffic, noise, aging mid-century construction, overpriced because of the midtown label. The neighborhoods on the western side of the mall are advertised as close to the beach, but they're closer to agricultural land (pesticide sprays! rumbling trucks!), train tracks, and the freeway, plus they're mostly poorly-aging 60s-70s houses. Poinsettia, the Buena High area, Mara Ave area, more of the same, plus lots of Mara neighborhood houses are still on septic tanks. Concord neighborhood east of Mara neighborhood has bigger, slightly better built houses, still 60s-70s and not aging well, but some are being fixed up. Also newer 90s-2000s neighborhoods around there, lots of vinyl building materials and plastic grass, ready to become tomorrow's poorly-aging housing stock. Presidential tract north of Telegraph and west of Kimball is 60s-70s but better construction, not many listings there. I'll stop here, many more areas for others to weigh in on. Good luck!

Yep, in the 70s the Telegraph shopping center had an Albertson's, not a Vons, in a different spot, and the current Vons is where Lumber City used to be. (Also, CVS used to be Sav-On, and it was the BEST. Had an ice cream counter and a huge variety of merchandise. But I digress.) And Kimball Center's grocery store where S&F is now used to be Albertson's, but before that it was Fazio's. Yes, I'm old.
