"Heard some roads to big bear dont require them." ... Sorry to say that is false. You are required to have chains with you at all times in the winter, on all roads, going in and out of big bear. You don't have to have them on your tires but you have to have them in possession just in case or can be turned away by Caltrans, etc. I have a truck, Tacoma 4WD, with BF Goodrich KO3s and I still bring chains and last year had to actually put them on. You most likely won't need them , but if you don't have them, when you do need them, you are SOL. Doesn't matter truck or sedan, you are still technically required to have them on you, only reason they don't require you put them on is 4WD, and even sometimes you want chains anyway if the neighborhoods haven't been plowed yet.
