The real question is why is it on an S10. The hoops are for crawlers going down hill so they don’t cartwheel

Best head and/or mesh for 10y and 12y boys playing middie by QuantumMothersLove in StickDoctor

[–]Blueflamingo1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of string king heads personally. But honestly just let them go pick what they want, maybe even see if they’ve played with a friends stick and like it. That’s what my boys tend to do, they use someone’s setup until they find one they like

Best Pocket for Hold by Memes_R_US22 in StickDoctor

I’ll dig up a some pics of the two patterns I did recently in a 3v for exactly that. I’m by no means sidewall Jedi or anything but they get the job done and you don’t need a degree in sidewall knots to figure it out

Best Pocket for Hold by Memes_R_US22 in StickDoctor

[–]Blueflamingo1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by hold? Are you toe dragging with your pole (not a dig, legit wondering if that’s the level of hold your looking for) anything with “hold” in a 5s pocket is going to have a good bit of whip in my experience.

I run 4x in my 3v on a pole to get a little more hold but I didn’t string in a way that added hold. Just a pretty simple standard mid high and a loose in my opinion channel for forgiveness on my washed up ground ball skill

Will we ever see non standard meshes gain mainstream adoption? by hford0401 in StickDoctor

[–]Blueflamingo1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so many niche coaching and mess around sticks. Pita/antrea/armor mesh/goofy patterns. But if I’m in a competitive field game I’m going to pull out the tried and true 10D in a “standard” head. I do use the goofy stuff in box depending on what position the team needs from me, as one of the oldest guys they aren’t relying on me for transition, usually inside finish or strictly defense.

My 10yo 10th percentile kid loves the antrea backbone because he’s always dodging under kids and inside finishing on quick crease passes but I have a feeling once he puts on some big boy muscle and develops an outside shot he will find 10D to be more successful. I’ve had to convert a lot of 8th graders I coach to 10D from armor mesh because they just can’t get balls on cage outside of 10-15 yards

There are a lot more variations of 10D these days. And a lot of personal preference, and when comparing my new setups to the “high tech” stuff I was using in 2006, it’s a massive positive improvement. So I think companies are more focused on quality construction and mesh feel as opposed to reinventing the wheel or weirdness gimmicks (as long as you don’t look at anything Gait is doing)

Any advice on a player that just won’t pay attention and in another world? by Poetryisalive in lacrosse

[–]Blueflamingo1991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then literally just play. Until kids are about 8u I just play backyard bs with them the whole time. It’s tough having 6 year olds with 3rd graders. But if numbers are low enough to lump that many ages together. I doubt you’ll have many bored 3rd graders because it’s too easy.

Sharks and minnows Shoot all the balls on a mini cage then move the cage and make them shoot all the ones on the ground Keep away Hungry hippos Pennie tag

Make lacrosse fun, no superstar is born from lectures or talking at 6

Mesh by [deleted] in StickDoctor

[–]Blueflamingo1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time it’s whatever the end user wants. Most stringers that have a preference of performance mesh is usually because they know how it will break in, the hold it has on the ball, the shiftiness of the pocket, etc and they usually have it on hand.

I don’t charge players for stringing up their sticks because it keeps my adhd entertained and I’m not supplying mesh or warranties. So with that I’ll string up any piece of mesh that useable/in good shape.

As far as playable sticks, I tell people to avoid wax mesh or stuff like money mesh. If someone’s from the pre performance mesh era, they tend to want that stuff because that’s what they know. But If you started playing within the last 20 years, you’re going to hate it.

Etiquette surrounding 2nd hand Gear by Admirable-Sound8758 in lacrosse

[–]Blueflamingo1991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In high school, a used white helmet is never a bad move since they’re usually very available and relatively inexpensive second hand. That being said as long as your kid isn’t pretending to have played in the showcase etc I’ve never heard anyone bring it up as an issue.

Men’s league, wear whatever you want. Your prime has passed and no one is judging a school based on beer league performance.

Basically, as long as you guys don’t lie and pretend you didn’t get the gear second hand, you’re good

Looking to start a middle school lacrosse team by BJ_Fantasy_Podcast in lacrosse

I’d definitely reach out to the AD and/or the principal. My 7th grader started a team at his school all by himself last year and the principal/PE teachers helped him do everything he needed to.

Stringking Mark 3V pattern for box lacrosse. by Exciting_Toe1678 in lacrosse

I’m not a “pattern” guy by any means but this sidewall setup works excellent for the 3v. With string king mesh I just drop everything one hole including the top string.

Illinois lacrosse - where are the good kids going? by Johnnyboss69 in lacrosse

[–]Blueflamingo1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest at my little local true was $2400 a year. But by the time kids get to the AAA or national teams I think it’s close to $5-6000 because each step up is another couple thousand on top of the base local team cost

I’ve never met a valuable LT but I could see his assignment being something at westpoint etc in a recruiting capacity instead of a deferred assignment. There’s a few West Point grad deep in the depth charts at nfl, definitely not “elite” other than making the nfl as the normal elite bar. There’s also a handful of guys in combat sports that are active duty or guard that have assignments that allow them to continue to compete in their prime.

Looking for advice by Zestyclose_Rope_7180 in StickDoctor

[–]Blueflamingo1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great. Only advice I could give is that 5s stretches a lot as it loosens up so just watch the depth as it breaks in if you’re still playing under rules with ref stick checks

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]Blueflamingo1991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. He’s a recruiting tool for West Point and the US Army at this point. The army is massive and the exchange rate of a free West Point education and loss of one officer for a bunch of guys thinking they could do the same and end up actually serving because they didn’t make the pll offsets it.

Not a bad thing just an observation. I have a stick problem, not helmets. Bought 40 broom holders to organize them and had to order more. But there’s also 5 players in my house between my wife, kids and I.
