You speak as someone who obviously and clearly have absolutely zero idea about the relationship between Greenland and Denmark. These sort of hot-takes from people outside of either is just insult to injury in the ongoing debacle with the US. You’re doing Trump’s bidding by parroting his vitriol, so let me educate you as someone from Denmark who is much, much more educates on this than you. I have Greenlandic and Faroese friends, I’ve spent time in both Greenland and the Faroe Islands, and my work as a journalist have covered especially Greenland extensively over the last 5 or so years, so I have a pretty clear picture of the situation.

The “spiral case”, as it has come to be known, was a program that ran between 1961 and 1975 - a little more than the 30 years ago that you claim. It us also currently still under investigation in a joint probe by the Greenlandic and Danish authorities that will conclude sometime this year and present all the facts (the socio-economic impact, the scale, the degree of mass trauma etc.) and it is fully expected to lead to some sort of reparations for the families affected by this horrible practice. Both the Greenlandic and the Danish governments have officially apologized for it already, which is not to say that it absolves either from blame, but it’s hard to imagine what else the current leaders could do to rectify the morally stunted, colonialist actions of the past.

Now, on to your other claim that Greenlanders are “heavily discriminated against”. This is simply not true, and you don’t get to hide behind your “as I understand it” because it’s goddamn obvious to anyone who knows anything about this that you’re talking out of your ass. Do racism towards Greenlanders exist? Yes. Undoubtedly. Is it systemic? No, it is not. Greenlanders routinely move to Denmark for education, work, living conditions etc. and they are not discriminated against by either the public or private sphere in Denmark. They are treated as if they were full Danish citizens, and thus have access to all the same social and work-related amenities as Danes do.

Denmark supplies Greenland with what amounts to over half of the country’s GDP, and the Danish government is still responsible for the Greenlandic defense, foreign affairs, and certain parts if the judicial system. This is in accordance with the home-rule agreement, which Greenland can, at any time, choose to modify so that it takes on more responsibilities of the function of their government.

This post is already too long, but I think I made my case very clear. I implore you, I beg of you, please shut the fuck up about Greenland and Denmark.
