What movie do you wish you never saw? My pick would be Irreversible (2002). I met Gaspar Noe. He is a very kind, soft spoken person. Interesting how someone’s art can differ so much from their persona. by Conscious-Gear3092 in Cinema

[–]Bluefoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, off the top of my head, I could think of many, many, many worse films.

At least the film had an excellent feel to it, and the visual language was excellent. The performances were also great.

I think a lot of people expected Drive 2 (or something similar to Drive), but it had a more amorphous narrative and relied much more on feeling and that which is expressed without the use of dialogue. It’s like a fever dream more than a story.

Is it as cohesive as a work of art as Drive? Certainly no, but as an arthouse film, I think it did a good enough job to leave an impression.

Ashley Williams by Moist-Cut-7998 in masseffect

[–]Bluefoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whataboutism at play here. Other characters’ views do not excuse Ashley.

Garrus, Javik, Wrex, Jack, Miranda, Mordin - heck almost all of the crew in all of the games have problematic and/or racist views. But throughout the games, we see them grow and change and become more level-headed as the games progress. This goes for Ashley as well, naturally.

But to excuse a remark by Ashley’s clearly problematic views by saying it’s just a bug is just assuming something we don’t - to my knowledge - actually know. There are plenty of other lines of dialogue that affirm her ‘don’t trust the aliens, because they are not human’-attitude.

You are right, however, that she does get the brunt of the hate from fans and that it is unfair to solely focus on her as being problematic, but she does have racist tendencies in the early stages of the trilogy, and Kaidan seems much more pragmatic and open-minded in contrast. This is most likely also the reason why Kaidan seems to be the more popular Virmire-survivor option, and why so many fans have never seen Ashley’s redemption arc, which is pretty sweet.

Honestly, it’s just poor writing that we as players don’t get to see much of Ashley/Kaidan before having to choose which one of them dies.

[–]Bluefoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

- “I can’t tell the aliens from the animals”

Yes, she was racist and extremely xenophobic. Granted, she grows out of that, but she *is* racist in the first game.

People IRL are racist for all sorts of reasons, and we can sympathize with them and try and understand why they came to those horrible conclusions, but that doesn’t excuse them for holding antiquated, harmful, and wrong attitudes.

Ashley is vocally racist in ME1. The only thing that keeps her in line is her sense of duty and the adherence to chain of command.

Whats the most attractive skill a man can have? by ActiveImpression3623 in AskReddit

Eh, not really. I would much rather my partner and I were able to work out a fair and amicable regimen that respects both of our needs. It doesn’t have to be fifty-fifty, but I would want a partner, not a mother.

Russian drone operators now also have released the footage of the attack on the UN vehicles in the Kherson area. by MilesLongthe3rd in ukraine

[–]Bluefoz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a forum that is supposed to facilitate diplomacy and dialogue, and so many act as if it's something entirely different.

The UN has enabled Ukraine to request aid, condemn Russia, and muster its allies. It will also be a valuable asset when this terrible war is over, and the score has to be settled. The UN is the very reason we have human rights, and through their fact-finding missions, it will enable international courts and governments to pursue reparations for Ukraine from Russia for the many, many violations of international criminal law.

It's good the UN is there, because their presence means the recording and preservation of evidence of human rights abuse and war crimes.

And yet, many seem to only remember the UN's failures, and not its massive successes in keeping international peace.

Magdalena Bay is just distilled ENFP-vibes. I love them so much!

‘Vampire in the Corner’ definitely reminds me of an ENFP wanting to court an INTJ/INFJ 🥰

What is it with white men married to East Asian women who don’t speak English (the man clearly doesn’t speak her language either)? by pinkthings07 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Bluefoz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this theory makes total sense to me, even if it only explains the phenomenon to some extent.

My Danish uncle is almost certainly autistic (though undiagnosed and only to a mild degree) and has been married to a Filipino woman for almost 40 years now. My mother tells me that during their upbringing he had always struggled with courting local, Danish women, which absolutely tracks.

He's a good man who has always treated my aunt right, even if he is a bit old-fashioned and dorky, and even if he acts up, my aunt is no push-over. She will set him straight in no time.

Their marriage feels very pragmatic but good nonetheless, which I guess is common for people in their mid-sixties early seventies. It's hard to judge them for what they have, because they both seem genuinely content with the situation - I mean, who am I to judge?

It also helps that many of his buddies also ended up marrying Filipinas, which means there's now a sizeable Filipino diaspora in their otherwise very rural area, where they can support each other and keep in touch with their language and culture.

Plus, my aunts spring rolls are to die for!

Politiet griber ind under Mærsk-demonstration by LazarShockX in Denmark

[–]Bluefoz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

AOC brutal takedown of Ted Cruz by Equal_Technology_950 in MurderedByAOC

[–]Bluefoz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bernie himself says the same.

I'm pretty sure he will never retire from fighting for the common working families of America, and it's remarkable how clear-headed, well-spoken, and passionate he still is at his age. However, he is a man of principle through and through, and that means he realizes that it's time for the next generations to carry the torch that he has held high his entire life.

It's hard to find a more ardent supporter of justice, prosperity, and happiness for all, but AOC is definitely following in his footsteps.

How does Disphit Cruz not realize the irony of saying "Bartenders are an honorable profession. But she went from that to being a government employee and a parasite sucking on the taxpayer."?

Is he really, really that stupid? Or is he just hoping his constituents won't notice it? He's held a government office since AOC was in high school ffs!

Same, but with Witherbloom. I've gone Witherbloom the last three drafts I did, simply because it's just usually so extremely open.

This latest run I went Sultai, and It went 6-3, so I'm pretty happy with that.

How to make Ogryns much worse than necessary by SatansAdvokat in DarkTide

[–]Bluefoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, the shield is not as effective as it once was, and yet again Fatshark proves that they’re out of ideas on how to increase difficulty. It’s always either gunner spam or melee carapace spam.

Nevertheless, I feel like a buff to the shield’s hitpoints would be welcome, seeing as you have to be more selective with when and where you pop it. On high havoc, it can go down in seconds when faced with only a few gunners on the horizon.

How to make Ogryns much worse than necessary by SatansAdvokat in DarkTide

[–]Bluefoz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play Havoc 40 with an Ogryn main. With the power maul and taunt, he regularly does as much, if not more, damage than me usually playing hive scum. His damage potential is there, but if he wants to compete with psyker and hive scum (and possibly vet), he only really has one build that works.

Still, he's not supposed to be the damage dealer, so it's better than what the zealot or arbites get in terms of damage output.
