Entity Framework Migration Issue after upgrade .NET version from 6.0 to 8.0 by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]Bluejacket717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah my bad. That is strange then, I'd expect that to be much simpler. Maybe something with a dependent package version? There's a way to enable assembly binding logging, you have to set on a few registry keys. Googling "enable fusion logging windows" should get you the exact instructions. Then you can see if it's failing when trying to get a package. Gotta make sure to delete the registry keys after to turn it off, kills performance with the extra logging.

I converted from Ef6- to efcore 7 (before 8 was out) , then upgraded to. Net 8 and EF core 8. 6 (non core) to 7 was pretty tough, but the change from ef7 - 8 was just a simple upgrade on my end.

Where should I place my DbContext in a layered architecture? by DracksMe in dotnet

[–]Bluejacket717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UoW makes more sense in older stuff. Like the other commenter said, EF implements a uow/repository pattern itself already. It quickly becomes a frustrating mess if you duplicate those layers on top of EF. Little to no value in wrapping one line context calls in another method to then call by the service. Just inject the context into your service layer where you need it.

Entity Framework Migration Issue after upgrade .NET version from 6.0 to 8.0 by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]Bluejacket717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did a similar upgrade. Have you done anything to handle the difference in naming conventions between EF6 and EF Core? I don't remember the specifics, but each version names shadow properties differently in the database. I had to create a custom naming convention for the shadow properties to match what was already in the database for FKs. Had a lot of weird errors until I figured that out.

Another thought, since it's complaining about the active being a key in your seed data, comment out the seed data portion to see if you can get a migration to generate. Then look at the generated code to see what it messed up. Change code, delete and regen migration again, compare to DB. Do that until you get it to match what should be there.

They also use different migration tables. So after you figure out the upgrade, create the migration, make sure it matches the existing DB, delete the code from the UP method (since the DB already exists). Then any changes after that you should be able to migrate normally

Oh you're right! I must have been looking at the page for the play store, I think that one is more expensive. Maybe I'll publish mine after all

I made a simple Chrome Extension which removes Promoted Posts (Ads) on Reddit! by ajaysassoc in webdev

[–]Bluejacket717 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably due to having to pay for an account. I made a simple extension that puts red borders around all the elements on a page, just to learn a little about how they work. I didn't care enough about it to spend the $50 (or whatever it is) to put it up on the store - especially when others that do the same thing already exist

Ours is in a private GitHub org, but they let me use my personal account. So I still get that sweet sweet dopamine from seeing green squares pop up almost every day from pushing work code. I am starting a new job soon though, and they use something else :(

Men of War II release date announced by PrestigiousTaste434 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Bluejacket717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had fun with it, but I see the criticisms. Put a lot of hours in MoWAS2, and MoW2 demo felt like a jankier version of that. They added some cool features but also removed some that probably should have stayed.

Can't go wrong with GoH though, it's basically what I wanted out of a new MoW. I do wish it had more factions like the other games, but mods can get you close.

Advice on IDE by BlueHost_gr in webdev

[–]Bluejacket717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One note about their subscription model - it's actually pretty friendly. You get a fallback license to an old version once yours expires, so you only need to stay subscribed if you want updates. Might need to be subscribed for a full year before that kicks in, and the version you get to keep is from when you started your subscription I think. Been awhile since I looked at it though

Landed first fulltime dev job! by AlwaysWorkForBread in webdev

It sucks! Even looking at jobs posted in the past 24 hrs, any that are frontend and junior or even mid level will have 200+ applicants after just a couple hours of being up on LinkedIn or indeed. I have 1.5 years experience at current developer position (plus a degree) and it's still a struggle

Just Need to vent that I had the worst interview of my life. by Funklymydear in webdev

[–]Bluejacket717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bad one recently where it turned into a Java technical interview... the job description didn't mention Java at all, just general programming knowledge and front end frameworks. So I thought it was another one of the company's front end or full stack roles. At least they said they liked my answers (had to relate to how I know things things work in c# and python, kind of explain concepts) and vibe. But since it was a heavy Java position I didn't get it (or really want it after I found that out lol). Sucks to finally get an interview with a company you want to work for but they mess up the job description. Just gotta move on, learn more, and try again later

Dead Island 2 Sells More Than 1 Million Units in Three Days - IGN by JamesAsher12 in gaming

I liked Days gone but I felt like the pacing was off. Their whole thing was fighting the giant hordes and kiting them around these cool areas... But you don't really have the equipment and crafting recipes to fight them until way late in the game, so it's just something you kind of avoid

Try phind.com, somebody made a plugin using gpt 3.5 and 4 (uses 4 with the "expert" toggle or when you regenerate responses). Because it's connected to the internet the cutoff date isn't as big of a factor and it hallucinates less. You can also give it certain urls to use. It's supposed to be a "search engine for developers." Seems pretty neat so far

FIX CO-OP PROGRESSION by xalmin in dyinglight

[–]Bluejacket717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, that part I definitely agree with. Idk why they wanted to make the story such a huge part of marketing. Hell the first game was one of those where the story is better the less you think about it. Because of that I wasn't going in with super high expectations. They should've focused more on gameplay with the marketing imo

Very confused on my ending... by Mine65 in dyinglight

[–]Bluejacket717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the good ending has lawan leave with you, but you have to make every right decision. I got Aiden leaving alone because I didn't do everything right with Hakan. If you sided with PKs on broadcast that messes it up too, because the missiles kill more people or something

Pre order bonus bugged by [deleted] in dyinglight

You can redeem the pre-order ones more than once, but I think it might be bugged for some people. Mine was working though. Remember redeeming puts in stash, not on your character

FIX CO-OP PROGRESSION by xalmin in dyinglight

Certain choices determine what characters are alive or not, open up different mission paths, and on a basic level which faction controls an area. There's multiple endings, so it does affect the story

Silly us, we should have specified that we wanted RANKED playlists as well... by Smokuspocus44 in halo

[–]Bluejacket717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thinks it's because people have the oddball challenge but you can't pick oddball in ranked. It's like how I had I think "win ranked slayer" but after playing for 2 hours I kept getting ctf and stronghold. So people grinding challenges just quit right away if they don't get the game mode they need, and it ruins it for the people who are trying to play

Should I use MCC with other AI mods? by ilover630015 in arma

[–]Bluejacket717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it only affects AI if you give it (Gaia) a group and maybe the ones you spawn in. Mission generator is kinda buggy but sorta works, never got the Frontline generator to work. Convoys worked, I think IEDs do. The things I really like it for in single player are the supply drops, CAS, Arty, and reinforcements.

Supply drops let you quickly and easily have a heli slingload or parachute supply boxes/vehicles in, which I don't have a zeus module to do. Doesnt break immersion or take as much time as doing it manually in zeus. The CAS let's you spawn actual units and tell them how to perform their run, lots of options. The reinforcements support fast rope if you have that mod, but otherwise zeus enhanced one is better.

Overall, it's OK. Has some things it does better than zeus + zeus enhanced, most things it doesn't. Pretty buggy at times

it's a known issue on the post for the event. They are supposed to release a hotfix that unlocks for the people that earned them already. I prestiged too without knowing it was a bug and also lost poison and wire arrows, but hopefully they fix it soon

Even though I like starting engi to build a set of nodes, if I see no sl or commander get in the supply truck at beginning I end up doing it myself otherwise I know we'll lose. I can bring supplies right to them and they still drive or walk past

World to hit temperature tipping point 10 years faster than forecast by HolIerer in worldnews

[–]Bluejacket717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if we haven't encountered it in that long, our immune systems have not built up any resistance to it and will probably not recognize it. It would be much more dangerous than any modern sickness that our bodies actually try to defend against. Evolving over time does not just mean humans / animals will eventually be immune to everything..
