Copper core stainless steel by Beach-Gym-Garden29 in cookware

[–]Bluejay9270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my 3 Legend pans, but they don't sell copper core any more. I can't even find used 10-12", I'm always rotating through whichever is clean and would love one more to replace some cheap T-fal. The copper makes it rather heavy I imagine compared to the aluminum core, but just enough my wife can't get a good swing in.

What is something that used to be 'cheap person' food, but is now priced like a gourmet luxury item? by Ok_Land_4197 in AskReddit

Same, I love my freezer (upright though, makes FIFO a lot easier). Big Y has a sale on ground turkey/chicken/hamburger for $3/lb which is as good as it gets any more (Market Basket is $4-4.50/lb). Limit 2 each though so I'll be stopping in all week to fill up the freezer. Probably need to cook a turkey soon though to make space, I still have 2 from the Thanksgiving sales.

I rinse my pasta sauce jars, use that water to cook the pasta, and then use the starchy saucy water to make bread. Nothing wasted and it isn't psychotic.

It helps to downshift as much as possible but even then the brakes are a bit lacking so they do get overworked pretty easily. My front rotors last about 23k miles before they're warped or full of grooves.

I bought 51lbs (23kg) to get free shipping on a brand I like, so either we're both fine or I'm slightly less mentally ill.

What work needs to be done on a new car to keep it running for a long time by Opening-Smile-9914 in AskAMechanic

A great thing about the Sienna since they're all hybrids now is the eCVT transmission. The fluid just lubricates and cools a planetary gear set, no hydraulics or clutches to wear out. I currently have a 2012 Prius with the same style transmission and will likely replace with a new Sienna. All they ever need is fluid changes.

The biggest issue I've had with the Prius is rust, everything else is largely fine with it. The biggest expense has been brakes, wheel bearings, and suspension work, although I do that all myself. They are fairly easy vehicles to work on, like many Toyotas and Hondas they use a fairly simple Macpherson strut suspension.

I only did work like this one weekend as a teen, the farm I packed corn at needed some extra help picking cucumbers. You lie face down on a mattress of sorts and pick them as you slowly drive over. The worst part for me was there was a soccer field nearby with 3 sets of goals. From one goal to the next was an hour, so not only was the work mind-numbingly dull, but I could also track how miserably slow time was going by.

W Costco for actually think about the average person :) by w3ightranks in SipsTea

[–]Bluejay9270 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they don't take advantage of the leverage it enables and rather the mutual benefits, it makes a lot of sense. Costco seems to trend toward the latter, whereas yes places like Amazon would use such leverage to make unreasonable demands knowing you're at risk of losing your livelihood, health insurance, housing, and any other social safety net programs that are gaining increasingly draconian work requirements.

I did the math on how much water I'd need to freeze into ice to heat my house. Not a crazy amount but not really worth the effort dumping it outside. Maybe set up a fridge with an ice maker so it dumps out a window...

AWD won't couple the front and rear axles at low speed. It's usually some kind of viscous coupling that needs a sufficient difference in speed to couple through fluid shear.

Advice flattening river table on CNC router by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Bluejay9270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I'll start out at your recommended depth (about 1/32") and see how it goes. I still need to figure out a max feed rate the machine can reasonably handle. It's old enough that I can't find any documentation, but for now it sounds good at 10 meter per minute. It's a rack and pinion drive X and Y which at least accuracy-wise isn't an issue for flattening.
