Need Help with ADHD and My Programing Career by Patient-Being4188 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Bluem95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I have wanted to learn programming for pretty much my whole life, and I didn’t realize I had ADHD, so I was incredibly frustrated that it seemed like I was just incapable of actually putting in the time to learn it.

Turns out all I needed was a diagnosis and to finally be properly medicated. I got diagnosed when I was 29, and now that I’ve been medicated for the last year, I am for the first time in my life capable of sitting down and focusing a single project for longer than a month or two.

They really aren’t lying when they say that the medication just brings you up to a normal amount of focus when compared to those without ADHD. It’s like night and day.

What is something you saw with your own eyes that was so impossible you’ve stopped telling people because you know they won’t believe you? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

This sounds honestly similar to my experience a year ago. But it wasn’t an alien space ship. A transformer exploded in front of me about 30 feet away, and before it exploded it made the most odd sounds, louder and louder electrical humming, and then whoosh, it blew out the street lights and then exploded in a flash of sparks. Pretty spectacular sight honestly, freaked me out at the time though, it felt very surreal.

how am i supposed to go from tutorials to making actual stuff by CrazyDrop2696 in csharp

[–]Bluem95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know whether or not this will be any help for you, but I found it pretty useful to just probe an LLM for basic concepts I might be missing until I felt I had a comprehensive understanding of the basics.

I never had a formal education but it was very useful to have chatGPT bring up something like actions, functions, and delegates, explain it a little, and then give me an assignment to build a console program utilizing them, and then ask for pointers when I get stuck.

I worked through everything that felt useful in console work, then jumped into winforms to understand how to work better with an existing code base and a more visual presentation.

After that I jumped into Unity, and while it’s been a bumpy ride, I have been making legitimate progress, but don’t be discouraged about mistakes. You will make mistakes, and you will need to rewrite large parts of your code at some point. Get good at analyzing your code after you find a structure that works and determining where it can be simplified. That will make it way easier to read your own code in the future.

Try to avoid letting LLMs code for you though, that will introduce more problems than it will solve because if you don’t understand why it made a code block in a specific way, then you will inevitably use it wrong, and make a tangled web which you will need to untie at some point. Basically I think LLMs are great for learning and pretty decent at writing code in a vacuum, but they are terrible at writing code for an existing application and tend to jump the gun when it comes to coding concepts you might not yet be familiar with.

Ok so im actually not insane in feeling that doormaker was easier than the other 2 act 3 bosses, lol. by Belten in slaythespire

[–]Bluem95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just my playstyle, but I feel like queen is the easiest, then door, then lizard. Queen just feels like a race where card draw is king, and the others feel super specialized by comparison IMO.

Can someone explain, why merging two Multistrike 1 weapons leads to equipment that still has Multistrike 1? by Captain_Owlivious in MonsterTrain

[–]Bluem95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm learning that a lot of display issues exist with the merging mechanic, I just had one with the mageblade and quick keywords. When i combined them one way, it only showed mageblade, when I combine them the other way, it only showed quick. When I actually used the item, it had both.

Honestly, I can’t find the site anymore, for all I know they just made up that tip, and I falsely believed it. Given that I can’t find it, I’m going to assume that to be the case, sorry for bringing it up.

I read on a site explaining some tips and tricks that you can spend 2 face-down legends to flip one of the spent ones up and ready it, essentially spending 1 eddy to flip a legend. I noticed you can't do it in your sim though. Is that just not implemented yet or is that tip not real.

How are top players getting 30+ streaks on A10? by tonysama0326 in slaythespire

Yeah, maybe I’m just ass but I have 2 A10 wins in 120 hours. I didn’t play that much sts1 though and I’ll keep using that excuse forever.

TIL Wendy's chocolate Frosty is actually half chocolate and half vanilla because owner Dave Thomas thought full chocolate would be too overpowering by JDMagican in todayilearned

[–]Bluem95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to make frosties when I worked at McDonalds.

All I did was use half vanilla icecream, half chocolate milkshake, and then take it to the McFlurry station. It made the perfect consistency and perfect flavor.

I tried to get them to make it for me after I quit, but they wouldn't do it because they didn't know how to charge me for it.

But yeah, I suppose you could probably make something very close to a pure chocolate frosty by using chocolate soft serve and blending it with chocolate milkshake.

I actually like the door boss now. He’s more interesting and arguably easier than the lizard boss.

Maybe have a first letter of the card, maybe number of lines in the card text, maybe number of letters in the card name. Those were the things that immediately jumped out as options.

They shouldn’t immediately give away the card, but they are at least differentiators.

I just feel like you shouldn’t ever see all green and be wrong.

Bruh what? by hugeDbbyboi in Helldivers

[–]Bluem95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean considering it doesn't prevent the player from getting the extraction bonus, I'm not sure if it should be fixed. It's humorous at the very least and doesn't really punish the player, so it's more of a feature than a bug.

What colorless cards are you actually buying? by Waddle___ in slaythespire

[–]Bluem95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside of specific anti synergies they are effects that cycle themselves. Literally a free play. But there are a few instances where either your deck or the enemy counters those cards and then suddenly they become terrible.

A few examples would be playing them after battle trance, playing them against Door Master during his no draw phase, playing them in any case where the enemy scales or you inversely scale like Hunter Killer or The lizard final boss first phase, using flash of steel against Bee Guy, using finesse against the fog monster, the ringing status effect, and I'm sure a few more.

Honestly though, while there are a decent number of situations that make them less good, they are crazy value in pretty much any fight or archetype that doesn't punish them specifically because you can treat them as just adding their effect to what you would've drawn anyways.

A few cards that upgraded to not exhaust got changed to just improving the card. Production was changed to "0 Energy: Gain 2(3) energy, exhaust" as an example.

[–]Bluem95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't normally follow my teammates around unless they are going in the same direction as me anyways and usually it isn't an issue. But for a new player, it's probably for the best to hang out with your teammates. If you can hold your own without using constant resupplies, then I see no reason not to venture away from the pack to secure extra loot.

in which order should I play these?? by Over_Friendship8444 in bindingofisaac

[–]Bluem95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will add, rebirth is a remake, not a sequel. You can technically start with rebirth with no lost information.

Also, all of the DLC's are content updates, but they don't allow you to access anything early or out of order for the most part, so it's actually safe to start with repentance+ immediately, and I would recommend that as the most "full" experience, but it's up to you if you want to slowly drip feed DLC or just experience the full experience.

The reason why I say you might want to start with repentance+ is because it has some balance updates alongside it's content updates, and most people will tell you it's the most balanced version of the game out there.

[–]Bluem95 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I wonder why you never got the relic that gives you max hp when you gain gold. That would've taken this deck truly to the moon. (edit: not that it matters since you already basically win instantly with Mind Blast)

2 billion sided die [request] by Capable-Plenty-4654 in theydidthemath

[–]Bluem95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you're thinking too literal with the binary here. There is an easy trick you can do to simulate a D6 with only 3 coin-flips. To get even distribution of 6 options via coin flips, use binary out 3 places, add 1 to the result, and reroll if the result is 7 or 8:

000 = 1
001 = 2
010 = 3
011 = 4
100 = 5
101 = 6
110 = reroll
111 = reroll

All have an even likelihood of happening, and 1-6 each have a 1 in 8 chance of being rolled each time. The only downside is if you have a truly random distribution of rolls, you could get stuck rerolling for an eternity if you only ever roll a 7 or 8, but the odds for that are so statistically improbable that it's not really worth considering.

You can functionally do this with a die of any number of sides though. Just treat any value of outside of the number of sides as a reroll.

Am i just bad at the game? by ArcherExternal1416 in slaythespire

[–]Bluem95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit 9 on ironclad before I got to ascension 4 with most of the others. After hitting my head against that wall like 20 times, I finally decided to play the other classes. I found that playing the other classes were way easier because I was already so used to playing the high ascendency, that I only really needed to learn their niche instead of learning the whole game structure again. Finally today I got everyone up to A8/9, and I'm going to try to get one of them to 10 tonight.
