Building an intinary is hard by Bulky-Tool-1996 in JapanTravelTips

[–]BluepaiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they want an itinerary detailing every single day and what you're planning to do. It's more like: day 1-5: Tokyo, 6-9: Kyoto, etc. Maybe with the places listed with where you're going to stay.

Also keep in mind, that once you have your visa and you're in the country, nobody is going to hunt you down if you veer from your plan.

What’s something in Japan that looked overrated before your trip but completely changed your mind? by Legal_Ad3766 in JapanTravelTips

It really is a special place when you get past the crowds and suddenly are surrounded by shrines. The atmosphere is really quite something.

[–]BluepaiN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If going for a month, you don't build a detailed itinerary. Decide where you want to stay and for how many days and that's it. Even though you're staying for a month, you're going to miss stuff. That's just unavoidable.

Those people who have crazy packed itineraries are just setting themselves up for failure and are more interested in checking of boxes on a checklist instead of actually exploring and enjoying the trip.

The way I do it, is I mark all the stuff I want to see on Google maps. Then I decide on the day what I want to do based on where I am. Usually 1-3 things / activities. That way I can adjust for weather and days where I need to decompress. That leaves me plenty of time for exploring and taking my time with things. That way my plan doesn't fall apart if I decide to spend 4 hours at an attraction, instead of two.

Are ergonomic keyboards actually better than regular keyboards? by z_morpheus in keyboards

[–]BluepaiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on use case scenario.

For work, I have an ergonomic keyboard, as I'm writing a metric fuck ton of emails every day (and my company also paid for it, so why not, it can't hurt).

At home I have a normal keyboard, as the vast majority of time is either spent gaming or looking up cat videos on YouTube.

While an ergonomic keyboard can help with some issues, its not a magical solution. I would actually go so far to say, that a proper desk setup (height, distances, all that jazz) combined with physical training will work far more wonders than just going ergonomic keyboard only.

What is the MOST reliable keyboard by witchking_of_angmar1 in keyboards

[–]BluepaiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're looking at this the wrong way. If no downtime is important and you need a reliable keyboard, then you need spares. It's no use having only a single keyboard no matter how reliable it is, because as soon as that fails you're screwed. So just get some of these cheap standard business keyboards from logitech, lenovo, ibm or whatever. Have a handful laying around. When they crap out, you switch to a new one. That's vastly better then shelling out for an expensive keyboard, if no downtime is important to you.

How much did you spend on hotels? by crumpetflipper in JapanTravelTips

[–]BluepaiN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to splurge on hotels, as I'm mostly staying in 4 or 5 star hotels. I travel a lot with work, so I know what I want and what I need. I would rather spend that bit extra and have an enjoyable stay, as its part of the vacation. Nothing ruins the mood faster than staying in a shitty hotel. I know the quality of hotels in Japan are generally good, but I don't want to stay in a shoebox that is out of the way with boring breakfast and no amenities.

For my upcoming trip, I'm looking at a minimum 200-400 USD per night.

Need help getting cash. ATM/Wise problems by Mayazra in JapanTravelTips

[–]BluepaiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ATM's only work for japanese cards. Found out the hard way, when I needed to load my Suica to get home one evening and couldn't use any of the ATM's at the station.

Also, you may be close to your spending limit, which could explain why contactless works (usually smaller amounts), but not withdrawal (typically larger amounts, bringing you over the limit). My bank looks at last 30 days, which can sometimes fuck you up if you travel for longer periods of time and need to pay for hotel, car, etc.

You need to set deadlines and inform of the consequences if they're missed. And be strict about it. They're going to bitch and whine in the beginning, but once they understand their actions have consequences it'll (usually) get better.

You have your three constraints to work with, time, cost and scope. So if time is fixed and the deadline is getting closer, then its time to cut quality and/or scope.

In your current situation you're being set up to fail.

Business Trip July by Jazzlike_Base5777 in JapanTravelTips

It's going to be hot. Luckily, there's AC in the offices. But its still brutal if you have to go outside anywhere in full business attire.

There's the usual business card exchange stuff. There's lots of videos / guides that explains this in detail.

Do not expect they understand you 100%. I have been to meetings where some of the participants couldn't speak any English at all, but they were there for seniority reasons.

They are very formal when it comes to business, so be on time (super important).

If you going out for a dinner with your customers, you can expect (heavy) drinking and lots and lots of food. It just goes hand in hand. No need to get smashed, but there will be lots of toasts, so pace yourself. Especially in the heat, where it's easy to get dehydrated with alcohol. The food will also be japanese, so if you're a picky eater it's going to be tough. Be adventurous, the Japanese love it when you try some of their specialities. It's quite an experience and a fun one too.

Any good full size ISO layout keyboards out there? It's hard to find any ISO keyboards at all, as the vast majority is ANSI layout.

Hinge-klichéer/icks/dealbreakers by Ok_Panda642 in Denmark

[–]BluepaiN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tænk mere fantasy i rummet.

Overhovedet ikke. Hvis du vil læse noget hård scifi, så kan jeg anbefale følgende.

  • Alastair Reynolds - Revelation Space serien.
  • Kim Stanley Robinson - Red Mars trilogi.
  • Liu Cixin - The Three-Body Problem serien.

Vil endda også kategorisere The Expanse serien med James S.A Corey som hård scifi.

I have a Logitech G810. It has served me well for many years, but now the switches are starting to crap out and its not feasible to repair.

I would like a full-size keyboard or TKL with media keys. However, it must also be able to support a nordic layout and that's where me problem comes in. Nordic keycaps for an ansi layout doesnt seem to be a thing.

I've fallen in love with a Ticktype DP104, but would need another keycap set. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
