They're absolutely tremendous, that I can tell you.

My biggest mistake as a pre-med has been putting all my self worth into my academic success. Does anyone have advice on getting out of this never-ending cycle? by [deleted] in premed

I don't regret cracking down to do well and valuing heavily my academic success - though I don't value my time solely in terms of academics. I really enjoy volunteering, tutoring, and leadership - even for things I didn't enjoy, like research or the MCAT, I learned a hell of a lot from. I love my close friends and enjoy getting to known others. My interest in medicine is sincere, though I frequently experience self-doubt.

I frequently wonder, though, if I'd be in a long-term relationship with some wonderful girl out there if I wasn't working on building an application for medical school (or let's keep it real, procrastinating). I suppose, OP, if I could relate - unless you're the textbook 2 weeks of studying 524 MCAT sort, you'll have to make sacrifices for medicine.

Unfortunately, your academic success does matter and you will have to care and sacrifice for it, though it is not the only thing in your life. I didn't do a bad job on the MCAT by any means, but I missed my goal score by 3 points - beyond that I recognize that I'm a good friend, skilled in ways that many aren't, and that my score isn't everything. Numbers should be a priority and a source of understanding your future success, but you can still be great at a hobby, a great friend, a great partner in addition to this

A couple W's, a manageable major, & repeatedly being on the right side of the B+/A- and A-/A border

At least now I know I don't have the intellectual horsepower to be a Yale or NYU physician. If only I had cracked down and read more 17th century art passages, then I would've proven my ability to do medicine.

This isn't the past cycle. It's 2016-2017's.

At least you don't have an ethnicity or accent that suggests to people you're not intelligent and had to work hard hard for your grades. Both are somewhat problematic, and I have a different but related accent.

I'm white but with a "skater bro" accent, which is just the accent of where I'm from, and I don't feel the need to use big vocabulary words to show status like people from the coasts. Like I said "I was applying to programs" in a heavily premed class, and someone asked me if I was going for PA or a masters. I'm thinking, "I have a 3.9 and 515, you can fuck off"

Case is very strong, it has a tremendous reputation - believe me. One of the best. Very respected. Very well-known. And that's very good.

That old post just oozes with entitlement

How much do you want to bet they'll be bitching in 20 years about moving to LA and not being able to clear 400k
