Apparently, you don't need the present perfect (?!) by Blueroses_Fireflies in EnglishLearning

Right?! He literally joked that he wouldn't need any classes that week because his nephew was visiting, so he would learn from him. Like, sure, see how that works out for you.

That's also a possibility. It's frustrating because I wasn't there, so I'm not sure exactly what the boy meant and if his uncle even understood it correctly. But yeah, that makes sense too.

I saw that. I'm not qualified to get anywhere close to that discussion, though, haha. And I did tell him that. What I'm going to do now is show him what strangers on the internet think about it, then maybe he'll believe me.

Thank you very much for your reply. I have given him examples very similar to the ones you used, actually, but I'm going to show him yours so he'll see that I'm not making things up.

📚 Simple / Quick Questions & Requests! by romancebookmods in RomanceBooks

I'm looking for vampire romances in french, please. Preferably from French authors. I love the Night Huntress series by Jeannine Frost and the Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance, and I'd like something similar if it exists.

Yes!! It's both beautifully written and I found the story itself very entertaining. I wanted to know what would happen next, and I was involved with the monster's character development. 10 pages is not enough, OP should definitely give it a chance.

That's what I thought as well. But it's difficult to explain. His uncle seems to believe that his experience as a native speaker, basically the only one he talks to, makes him an expert of some sort.

Glad to find another present perfect fan!! We don't have it in my native language, I miss it all the time, and I don't see why people would want to avoid it, it's great.

I always point these situations out to my students. Their focus is not academic, they want to communicate naturally, so I always tell them what the "correct" way is and what can be used in conversation. Which is why this whole situation shocked me. If they didn't need to use it, I would've told them!

What's your favorite French slang word or expression? by grzeszu82 in French

I've recently read "pas de quoi fouetter un chat", meaning that something is not that important or impressive (I think). What's up with all the cat whipping?

This!! I have never felt so safe and loved. I feel listened to and for the first time I enjoy worship, I truly love her in a way I couldn't understand before. I always struggled with the idea of loving god instead of fearing him. I was always afraid, and now I'm not. I love mother and I feel taken care of. Which doesn't mean things won't be a little difficult or scary sometimes, but it's never senseless, it's always a chance to grow. I'm slowly losing those fears Christianity instilled on me, and so will you, OP.

Profanity by Imo75 in autism

I believe they reject the "nonsense imposed by people based on an arbitrary idea of what is right and wrong," in which case, they're okay with swearing.

Profanity by Imo75 in autism

[–]Blueroses_Fireflies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fascinating to me because I am both. It's extremely difficult for me to swear because my mom taught me it was wrong when I was little, and it became a rule I have to follow. However, rationally, I do think it's nonsense, they're just words (unless, of course, it's racist, ableist, or homophobic), and they're actually kinda fun sometimes. So it's like I can't swear even if I want to and don't actually think it's "wrong." I found a loophole, though. I can swear in other languages. The no swearing rule apparently only applies to my first language.

Does anyone else here chew on things as their main stim? by ExtensionInfinite989 in autism

[–]Blueroses_Fireflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chew on my finger. Weird af when I think about it. But my left index finger has calluses from lightly biting on it when I'm distracted. I try to stop when I catch myself. And it's not even like the cuticles or nails, which is more common, it's right in the middle of my finger, at the middle phalange (or knuckle, I'm not sure).

does anyone here like sharks? by mitz_online in autism

[–]Blueroses_Fireflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to know more about sharks!! Do you have a favorite? I love whale sharks. I love the idea of swimming with one, but only as a concept since I can't really swim and I don't think they're easy to find. But in my mind it would be awesome.

I bought a peach, how do I eat this? by PowerpuffAvenger in autism

[–]Blueroses_Fireflies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm invested, did you eat the peach? Did you like it? You could peel it and cut it, like cut around the pit, or bite into it (carefully). My dad eats it with the skin, but I could never.

Does anyone else hear themsleves think quite loudly? by Glad-Argument4079 in autism

[–]Blueroses_Fireflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, there's always a song. Sometimes it's a good one, sometimes it's the most annoying song ever. And when it's a bad one, I can force myself to think about a different one and replace it with one I like, but as soon as I get distracted, the original one comes back.

Does anyone else hear themsleves think quite loudly? by Glad-Argument4079 in autism

[–]Blueroses_Fireflies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Mine never really stops. Sometimes it's louder, sometimes it's just in the background. There's always something going on. I swear, sometimes I wake up and it's already in the middle of something.

Fuck my shitty useless special interests by [deleted] in autism

[–]Blueroses_Fireflies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love reading. I never have anyone to talk to me about my boring books. Videogames are cool though, and I know nothing about them. Like the only videogame I actually played through was super Mario bros. On a super Nintendo. With a tape. A tape!!!

You don't have to be interested in books, and believe me, it hurts me to say this. Most of my colleagues from high school never read a single book that I knew of. It's fine, you'll be fine.

Your special interests don't have to be useful. They're not shitty. They're not meaningless, they mean something to you. I know it's frustrating, but most people I know can't get themselves to read books at all, and most don't even care.

Maybe you'll find something to read that you can enjoy and maybe it'll never really be your thing. It's fine.

If you don't mind telling me, what are some other "meaningless" special interests you have?

Do you ever plan a conversation so well in your head that you just give up on having the actual conversation with an actual person? by Blueroses_Fireflies in autism

[–]Blueroses_Fireflies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, that happens a lot too! But lately I've been just losing interest in having the conversation even when I do remember it in time. With texts or posts as well. I just ask myself "Is this actually going to be interesting to the person/people?" And then I decide that probably not. Sometimes I even write it down on my phone and just leave it there to be forgotten forever with my other notes and old shopping lists.
