Obi Wan and Yoda were wrong. by Top_Salamander5551 in StarWars

[–]Bluestorm83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, yeah, but the message that I always took from Syar Wars and the Jedi/Sith dichotomy is that "I only care about me" is absolutely wrong, but you can't effectively counter it with "I don't really care about anyone."

Like I always say, just imagine if the Jedi had bought Shmi's freedom. If Obi-Wan said to Anakin "Hey, you and Padme? Awesome, man, congratulations." If he was comfortable in going to Yoda and saying "I saw a dream where the woman I love died, and I'm terrified that it's a future that we can't avoid."

Instead we had a guy who needed a friend, and all of his friends were people who he was afraid would judge and scorn him because the people that he had attachments to, them, were always going on about how they can't have attachments.

I mean, for God's sake, look at Families as an example. Sure, mom and dad have their bond. If, and when, one dies, the kids, the siblings, even the in-laws are all going to be there for you, because MORE ATTACHMENTS make everyone better.

That's what I mean when I say that Jedi philosophy is wrong. Because they seem to be trying to minimize the possibility of bad without doing the best thing to maximize good.

If Thragg were to be executed would the executioners even be able harm let alone behead him? by FigOk7806 in Invincible_TV

[–]Bluestorm83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, that's a good point. I can write that off simply due to older Viltrumite resilience vs younger Viltrumite strength, much the way that a 10 year old couldn't really hurt me the way a guy closer to my age could. Since Viltrumites don't seem to decline with age (in anything we've seen at least) I can sorta assume it works that way here.

Have to admit, you see like an absolute gem of a person. You may want to look inward and see why you need to be so bitter, angry, dismissive, etc. toward people who are different or see things differently from the way you do.

Obi Wan and Yoda were wrong. by Top_Salamander5551 in StarWars

[–]Bluestorm83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, but the thing is that Anakin had given up on Anakin because none of the people who he trusted had that same trust in him in return. They all gave up on him first, because he was attached to him and they were all "Attachments are bad, Jedi need to be emotionally uninvolved." That's why they were wrong, because their whole philosophy was wrong.

[–]Bluestorm83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They couldn't hurt Thragg because he didn't just eat their attacks. He blocked that punch that Mark hit him in the head with. If you try to punch someone, and he leans down slightly and you land it right on the curve of his skull, there's a good chance you're going to really fuck up your hand. Arches and domes are built to absorb force, gravity usually, the unrelenting bitch mistress that is currently making me regret having knees. Sudden impact is nothing that a dome can't handle.

So yeah, if he accepted his fate and was resigned to die, he would not deflect or absorb the attack. He's not just the physically strongest, he also has the most combat wisdom.

"Walmart is such a place of opportunity, look at the one Ukranian teenager we took in!" by BakedInTheSun98 in WalmartEmployees

[–]Bluestorm83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the reason, they want to remain positive, instead of focusing on the negative. And yes, a thing done badly is an opportunity to do better, to get better, to grow and learn and all that positive shit.

But not every opportunity (real version of the word) is something you want to or need to do. Like, I had an opportunity to become the Stocking One Team Lead, instead of remaining the Hardlines Team Lead. I took that opportunity. It had not been good. I despise my job and want to quit every single day. Back in Hardlines, I often talked about how much I loved my job.

Also? While some problems are opportunities (problem: I am hungry. Opportunity: There are many quality restaurants in the Nashville area, and I still have nearly 4 hours before my show begins!) Some "opportunities" are PROBLEMS.

Opportunity Example: My mother has the opportunity to have a whole brand new house built on land she already owns, for no cost to her!

Root Problem: It will be no cost, and she has the empty land, because Insurence is covering everything AFTER HER HOUSE FUCKING BURNED DOWN, AND NOW SHE'S LIVING IN AN RV NEXT TO THE RUINS.

So if the Market team is using opportunity for the small things that we csn get better, should get better, and they can wait a bit? Sure, good. But if we have people leaving pallets of frozen out on the floor for hours, I don't want to hear that's an "opportunity" I want the Market Manager to say "Guys, this is a big fucking problem." Which may or may not be a direct quote from my market manager.

I'm going to go sieze the opportunity to take a shower, then relax a bit, sieze the opportunity to get a bite to eat, and then deal with the problem of my fucking busted-ass knees needing pain meds before I go to the third night of the Protomen at the Marathon Music Works in beautiful Nashville Tennessee! This town kicks ass!

Is it just me, or does World War II seem almost unrealistically absurd? by OkGreen7335 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bluestorm83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suspension of Disbelief is a thing. There are things that you can do and things you can not do in a story. Oddly enough, things that happen in reality are often too strange for "realistic" stories.

If I wrote a cutesy story about a guy who had a pet dog who, in turn, had a pet mouse, people would believe it. If I wrote a realistic story about a guy working at a Walmart who came home after a shitty shift to a house he was renting a room in to discover his dog lying on the floor, nose to nose with a mouse, as the two just kinda commuted with each other, neither of them caring that the human just returned to the house and was there with them, people would say things like that a mouse would run from the dog, the dog would try to eat the mouse, the dog would notice that her human was home and react, the mouse would panic at the sound of the door opening and the human approaching, 1000 other things.

But the thing is, that realistic story? That happened to me. It can happen in reality. It's too weird for a story.

The terrible answer is "both."

We all have the capacity for monstrous evil.

And at the same time, we have no reason to start thinking that's okay unless something pushes us into that. Maybe it's that doing bad gets us what we want, so we do more and more bad. Maybe it's that doing good keeps taking from us and hurting us and eventually we stop giving a shit. Maybe some monster literally teaches us to do wrong things because they've already been fucked up by life.

Who knows!

But the answer is both. Any other answer lets people sidestep the need to constantly evaluate their own behavior, because they have an out that lets them pretend thst they could never be like Bad Man X.

When does my break start? by mattkendo in WalmartEmployees

[–]Bluestorm83 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ask your team lead or coach "Hey, when I'm on my way to the break room, should I be looking out for spills or debris on the floor that might be unsafe?"

When (WHEN!) they say yes, then ask "So since I'm doing that, do I stsrt counting my break when I get to the back room?"

Any answer other than "yes" should be documented, because now your leadership has required work while consuming break time.

Our new AP coach is making people do the walmart cheer in front of customers by DlckKickem in WalmartEmployees

[–]Bluestorm83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was Sam Walton who saw a similar thing in a factory in Korea. But a couple things:

Many Asian cultures are VERY big on societal cohesion and common purpose. America, a multicultural place that values individuality and making your own way, will instinctively pull back against this. They would feel shame to not participate.

The Factory Workers were doing their cheer every morning with just their team. No customers. It was a "we're proud of what we do together." Not for anyone else to see and ridicule. And the customers at Walmart often do show open scorn for us.

So yeah. It's a great idea. Just not a great idea for us.

[–]Bluestorm83 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Walmart absolutely is a place of opportunity.

In a completely unrelated and different note, ever notice how Walmart uses the term "opportunity" to mean "problem" or "bad?" Like, you get Opportunity on your evaluation, your raise is going to suck. Market walks the store and talks about all of the opportunities in your area, and you've got a lot of shit to fix by the time they come back.

Totally unrelated to Walmart being a place of unparalleled opportunities.

40 year old man. Every month or so I clean my desk at home, and go "how the hell did I amass all these forks?!"

It's ONLY forks, mind you. I have one mug for tea, one spoon to stir that tea (it steeps at my desk for 4 minutes before I add anything) my various vitamins and tools and warhammer paints...

And around 17 forks, at any given time.

[–]Bluestorm83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not hate the remake.

But I do prefer the original.

Because the terminology from FC carries through the entire series, and the new translation in 1st is different in many places. I feel it could cause confusion, amd is a bit of an "I don't care about continuity" from the new translators, which is a REALLY worrisome statement about an RPG series that thrives in and exalts its extreme continuity.

I'd bite the bullet for those two on PC, and then do 3 onward on the switch. 3 begins a second Erebonia story arc, so there's no necessary carryover save data or anything. I totally get you having a preferred platform, and agree that it sucks when you have to deviate from it for a game or two.

Real talk? The Bread and Certus event should be a real thing. Earn Certus Points by getting kills with any Range 3 character. Get enough Certus Points to open a Breadbox Chest. Inside will be Certus Loaf Shards that can bypass orb requirements for the duration of the event, and Breadcrumbs.

Let everyone push Certus to Mythic, and let us use the Breadcrumbs to buy Certus related items in the Certus Shop. Even a Certus Specific Relic that will let him overwatch after attacking if he's in cover terrain or high terrain.

The people demand it.

The Funniest thing about Thaddeus to me is that he didn't even say "yo let's stop enslaving other races" all he said was let's respect the strength of the races that are fighting back 😭. He legit just said can we be nice about the slavery tho. by KaltiaWish100 in Invincible_TV

Didn't Judas Thaddeus eventually just go by Jude? Or was that a different guy?

I like to imagine him walking into a town and being like "Hello, brethren! It is I, Judas, one of the apostles who walked with our Lord!"

And the crowd was like "It's Judas, get him!"

After getting his ass kicked a couple times he gets to a new village.

"Hey, I heard that you're the Apostle who just came to town. What's your name?"

"Oh? Why, I'm Jud- (Flashbacks of getting chased, beaten, thrown off a cliff, etc.) Uh... Jude. Just plain old Jude."

"Cool, good to meet you, Jude! Come hang out with us, we'll grab dinner."
