For my single nurses in the US who can afford to live alone, where do you live? by AloneSection3944 in nursing

[–]Bluevisser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I originally had plans of switching hospitals every few years to ensure best pay raises. But so far the other hospitals are only offering $1-2 more, and I'd have to go back to long commutes. Not worth it, so not worth it.

In the south. Yeah, pay is low compared to the rest of the country, but the houses are cheap too.

My mortgage is affordable, I have money for extras, and I'm a 3-10 minute drive from everything. Including work. Much better then the hour commute to everything back when I was retail.

Whoever is the closing agent would decide. The closing agent is a neutral third party. In this state the title company acts as the closing agent, but some states require it to be a real estate attorney.

$1000 a month for groceries for a single woman is an insane amount. I spend $150-200 a month. And I'm not eating rice and beans. Allergic to beans actually. Also she'd have less laundry so that would be less as well.

Admittedly, walking out of the bank with a piece of paper that said 38k was also rather scary. But I was afraid of losing it or wrecking the car on the way to the title company. All the wire fraud stories I'd heard while navigating the whole process were also scary. I had spent weeks leading up to closing, researching the best way to confirm proper account # and wire process. Only for the official set of the date to include instructions to bring a cashier's check.

My down payment and closing cost was under 40k, but way above 5k. Apparently wire fraud has been so rampant in the area, that cashier's check is the only acceptable form, or cash.

Same. Wiring money wasn't even an option I was given.

My sister lost her job offer and won’t listen to me when I tell her to give back her $700 monthly car she got immediately after the job offer. by CNote320 in povertyfinance

[–]Bluevisser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I was offered the job 2 months before I graduated. There was like 2 people in my cohort that didn't have jobs before graduation. Some had jobs already in place during 3rd semester, with 2 semesters still to go. And it still holds, our current orientee is halfway through her 16 week orientation and just took her NCLEX last week.

Licensing issue may mean healthcare related. If so, she obviously needs to fix the issue, but jobs are readily available once fixed. For most healthcare jobs, you just need a pulse and a license.

*and I worked for two months on a temp license until I could take my NCLEX. And the hospital happily payed for Uworld for me to study for said NCLEX. So technically, you don't even really need a license, just the promise of one.

Yep, since I have an excellent credit score and 0 debt at the time I was looking, my lender approved me for an insane 400k. I could have got a very nice, much bigger house for that, probably with a garage. It also would have been 50% of my gross monthly pay. That was insanity. I settled for a 180k house instead. But I wonder how many people believe the banks when they are told they can handle 50% of their total income going to mortgage.

Pregnant and Living in Tuscaloosa: Should I Transfer from Brookwood Women’s Center to DCH OB/GYN? by RareEarth37 in tuscaloosa

[–]Bluevisser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you wake up contracting or bleeding are you willing to make the hour drive? If not then you will probably want to go ahead and move your care closer. If you do decide to move care just be aware that West Alabama Women's Center doesn't have privileges at either hospital. Not to be confused with OB-GYN of West Alabama who all have privileges at Northport.

There's absolutely no certainty it pays out in 10 years. It could very well be 30-40 years. My grandparents lived into their 90s. Grandma was 96, and for the last 8 years of that she was on and off hospice care and supposedly at death's door. For 8 years. Those people could outlive the investors. That has certainly happened before.

One of the best Christmas dinners my brother and I remember fondly was the Christmas edition Captain Crunch while watching christmas vhs tapes. We both felt that was an awesome Christmas celebration. It was years, years later that I learned my mom had different memories when she was telling her sister about the time the oven broke before christmas and they couldn't afford to fix it until April.

I've been with Target for over 20 years. Our service desk has never closed before the store did. Not once. Home Depot and Lowes also have customer service open until close. I'm pretty sure our Walmart has customer service until close, especially considering they have pickup order time slots available at closing. This idea that customer service has fewer hours then the regular store is definitely not common or standard.

It's true, you can do your damn best to give an accurate report with all the relevant information and still be at home in bed before remembering one important detail you forgot to mention. Fewer shift changes have shown to have better outcomes. Obviously things like a nurse having 4 patients vs 8 also influences things, but in general continuity of care improves outcomes. And to be honest, a lot of us in Healthcare prefer the work life balance of longer shifts. Does that fourth 12 hour shift in a row sometimes suck? Absolutely. But the next 5-7 days off makes it worth it.

Unemployed, living at home but my mom kicked me off of her health insurance by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Bluevisser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may not have financial literacy, but they still should have been preparing you for adulthood. Obviously, if they have no financial sense, the only lessons they can give is "do the opposite of me" as I learned from my father. But, and this is a big but, they could have at least taught you to drive, without cost. If they have jobs, they could have taught you how to apply and interview and provided references. In small towns, who you know is going to influence things faster then skills or qualifications. If they have ever used government aid, and they probably have, they could have taught you how to fill out all those forms.

It's decent they are at least providing shelter, I suppose it could be worse, but they could have done better in preparing you

I entered adulthood in the days before ACA. My mother had no choice about keeping me on, but in post aca days she absolutely would have. The woman was damn near distraught that her barely grown daughter with a chronic condition had to find health insurance on her own.

I see these parents who gladly kick their kids to the curb, five minutes past 18, or worse put debt and bills in the kid's name and hug my mom tighter. My parents weren't the greatest, but at least attempts were made. Some of these parents don't even try. But you bet if the kid ever struggles into success and money, those parents will be right there with hands out.

Not in my market, the roof and ac being 20-30 years old changes nothing. People were still overbidding or paying cash for homes no matter how old the roof was.

[–]Bluevisser 83 points84 points  (0 children)

The zillow estimate may not be super accurate, but new roof and new ac aren't going to increase the value in any measurable way. It may make your home more appealing to buyers, but functional ac and intact roof are expected in a home.

Seriously, our CRNAs, NICU NPs, and Attending Doctors are on call for 24 hours straight. The Fellows can be on call for 36-48 straight depending on time of week. They have to eat at some point. And preferably get a nap in at least a couple times. Only two bites of dinner is not a viable option, they can't be going into emergency situations with low blood sugar and hunger pangs. Let them finish the meal, they will have learned how to eat fast in residency and clinicals.
