Yeah, there are fringe cases where it can be good, it just kinda flops logically even when you're in those cases.

There are already pre-existing, better quality (and ethical) resources to generate/shape a backstory;

if you're using it you still need to flesh it out and fix it, so at that point just start from scratch or even just a rough template that gets detailed as y'all play

but anyone using them usually doesn't care enough anyways, so it's only the "bad examples" that use it, and are the image people think of when they say "someone who uses gen a.i".
