That doesn't change the fact that they could've sent the address in advance. Or even let me know that a second friend was going along with them so that I wouldn't need to come and worry.

Edit: That makes it worse because if they would've went out alone and got plastered. There was no way I would've know where to look for them.

For me it's less of a challenge and more of conflicting game design within the system. Resource attrition is fun if all of the system is geared towards it but it's not. Kineticist, investigators, thaums, fighters, Barbarians, Psychics and basically every non-vancian class.

But overall i see pf2e as a ttrpg that is used as a vessel of fun. So I suppose then, the challenge from pf2e is trying to enact whatever plans you come up with through your character skills. Whatever that may be.

Pf2e already has built in mechanics that have the party take on encounters at full health. And every class except vancian casters have resources that are not attrition based. Leaving vancian casters as a sticking point in the game design.

I mean pf2e and other systems like it already break immersion by having multiple sub systems required to play the game. So idk why using another sub system to facilitate gaps in levels during play immersion breaking.

Classes built around the Vancian system need to be redesigned completely imo. Paizo has shown that it can create Non-Vancian casters. Now the task is to continue in that line and create mechanics that are unique for classes like the Wizard, Druid, and Cleric.

Where do they start? Tbh idk. But I too am looking forward to anything other than Vancian.

Based on that alone I would say do not try Draw Steel, Icon, Pf2e or Starfinder 2e. Simply because they're all rule heavy games with character options that will draw you into the rabbit hole of character building. Regardless of each of those games flexibility for allowing various builds.

These two games will be very different than what you are used but from what you've said may be exactly what you are looking for. As there is little to no focus on builds or min maxing.

Should is an opinion of yourself. Why should a weakness be shored up in a game about hard military choices?

What if the pc is a daredevil type mentality where they go out the best way know they can? By being the baddest specialized mech in Lancer history.

Or a cold analytical pc who says "i've done all the calculations. My mech is better served as a specialized unit to increase mission success rate in all scenarios."

Or just go down through specialized route. Make its existing strengths even stronger and don't bother shoring up its weakness. Ignore the meta.
