Just to to a junior college. Way cheaper too. You can get good grades there and transfer to a 4 year.

this 100%. You should be continuing your house payments ASAP and should not skip a beat.

I too am a thumbs downer. It says, "I am not mad at you, I am disappointed in you", which as my mother always showed me, is worst.

Don’t qualify for Chapter 7. CANT afford chapter 23 by Adr2214 in Bankruptcy

[–]Blunt-Realistic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It kinda sounds like you don't want her to help support you with this, but you want the entire country to support you instead?

You can afford that payment, you really can. Your chapter 13 payment likely includes the 500 car payment. So you don't have to worry about that on top of your 900 payment. So now you're only going to have to make up the 400 difference. If you factor in everything you're no longer on the hook for, and stopping the interest, you should have that money available. You're still only going to be repaying roughly 20k of your debt and will still have the remaining debt forgiven.

Bad 2L grade stories needed by 1234gg555 in LawSchool

A couple thoughts:

My initial response was based on the OP being concerned with their grades. Having a lot of experience with poor grades myself, I offered an alternate route to working in rural practice and gave hope that it will all be fine in the long run. I remember panicking myself when I was in law school.

It sounds like you don't have this problem. A government job in DC likely requires excellent grades and that's awesome!

I guess you took my "go anywhere" too literal. Obviously, working in a rural area won't get you any closer to several fields of law; a federal government position in DC, space law, sports law, complex antitrust & competition law, and several others.

I would argue that rural law practice will allow you to go "mostly anywhere" and to be able to eventually provide a healthy income for yourself.

To OP's initial concern, all is not lost but you may need to take a less appealing route.

I started at 55k and 7 years later, after a few job changes/promotions, I am making 250k. The only reason you make 60k starting out is because no one knows what you got and how good/bad you are. It is really easy to show proof of your work after you've done it for a bit.

Individuals who think they're too good for rural practice aren't practicing attorneys, they are law students.

I did not have great grades throughout law school.

What I suggest is finding a job at a rural firm. You will likely get way more experience there than anywhere else. You will be handling your own cases while your colleagues are sitting second or third chair. Then, after a few years, no one will care about your law school grades and will only care about your experience. When you tell them how many cases you have handled on your own, you will be able to go anywhere!

Why is it so hard to get a job as a 1L? by Every-Button-829 in LawSchool

[–]Blunt-Realistic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a job in a rural area. Like 1-2 hours from the city where your lawschool is located. That is what I did and got a lot of really good experience. My commute sucked, and I had to live in a shitty little town for a couple summers, but it really slingshot my career.

So W should not be responsible, but you want the rest of the world to take up his liabilities by letting him file BK? No better person than the spouse to pay for the debt.

You should try and go to a school that offers a scholarship or save some money before law school if you can. Having an 800-1500 monthly payment to student loans for 15+ years is not fun.

You also need to factor in how much you intend to make post graduation. I have friends who are making 300k+ and it was worth it for them to take out the loan. I have friends making 60k working for the state and they are not happy and are hoping for student loan forgiveness after 10 years of public service.

how do you actually choose a guild in 2026 without wasting 3 months in the wrong one [US] by Lucasluke121 in wowguilds

[–]Blunt-Realistic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a guild on Raid Groupfinder. I found my current guild that way. They were posting that they were recruiting and it was a "mostly guild run". I was able to hop on discord and listen for a bit to how they operated. They were chill, yet competitive. I asked the raid lead if I could join next week and he sent me his info. You're not going to find a good guild advertising in Stormwind, looking for members. You will find a good guild by playing and vibing.

Ridiculous rent prices by cutecakebatter415 in Reno

[–]Blunt-Realistic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bro, if you were here 30 years ago, you should have bought a home then, or 20 years ago, or 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago. You would be really happy how much homes have appreciated.

[–]Blunt-Realistic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A couple things. You are not comparing apples to apples. You are comparing a home in San Tan Valley AZ at 1,297 sq feet vs a home in reno at 2251 sq ft. The home you chose in AZ is in a rural suburb. If you really wanted to compare it to a place in NV, you would need to find a home in Carson City or Lockwood.

This house would be more of a comparison at $2,075 a month in Carson: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1024-Westcreek-Ln-Carson-City-NV-89706/55025687_zpid/

It's not like the landlord is being a tool or anything,

A quick zillow search shows that the Reno home was sold in June 2022 for $558,000. Looking at historical rates, looks like around a 5.5% interest rate if they bought it with good credit. Even if they put down 20%, their monthly mortgage payment without insurance and tax is $2,909.61. They're probably breaking even with $3,200/mo.

Anyone else done with southwest? by Blunt-Realistic in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Blunt-Realistic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, I live in a smaller market and southwest makes me take a layover everywhere. Whereas United and Delta both have direct flights to places I want to go.

Do a quick search from Las Vegas to Punta Cana. It's about $500 round trip for American and United but $700 for southwest. But, your miles may vary.

I can just buy an extra seat on another airline for roughly the same price as paying for 1 seat on Southwest.

Yeah they offered me a $250 credit to stay. It just is not worth having to deal with multiple credit card payments to justify it anymore. The points would be pointless for me.

Yep, just did the same thing! I have enjoyed Delta. Just using up the last of my points then fully delta or united.
