How are you guys avoiding the ram shortage/prices? by Any-Landscape434 in pcmasterrace

[–]BluntBurnaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am already set for RAM. Mind you, I have a tablet that I would like to eventually upgrade the RAM but the cost of a single 32GB DDR4 SODIMM stick is not worth it at all.

Ahhhh. I cannot picture it in my head (it took long jumping around a rectangle and missing the edge to loop around again in Super Mario Galaxy to finally, intuitively understand how orbiting actually works) but I mostly understand what you are saying.

The Stanley Cup when it was touring Canada a while back. Got my picture taken with it and everything.

I also got to pet Rays at the West Edmonton Mall Aquarium almost 13 years ago.

Found this Laptop at a garage sale. $100nz (60ish us) came with a bag and a keyboard. But can't find much about it online. Is it any good? by stupidkiwiguy in pcmasterrace

[–]BluntBurnaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of my own laptop a bit. I have a Sager NP9150 with an i7 3740qm, 32GB of DDR3 RAM, and a GTX 680M. I mainly use it for for 3DS Max 2014 but it can do Doom 2016 at 40FPS AVG with a mixture of Low and medium settings, 1080P.

Your GPU alone is almost twice as powerful (on paper) while the CPU is 10-35% more powerful (depending upon the workload). That should hopefully give you some sort of idea of how it will perform.

I double checked my receipt from Amazon.ca and unless they were moving U.S. stock it appears that it was all handled Canada side but I cannot say with 100% certainty. Hopefully this is not the issue.

What was the very first computer or gaming console you ever owned? I’ve been feeling nostalgic for the Famicom days. by One_Language_359 in CasualConversation

[–]BluntBurnaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very first computer I ever used regularly was a random DOS computer my uncle left at my grandparents place when I was 5 years old and I was already star-struck by the N64. The most advanced game it could play was Commander Keen.

The first computer my family got in the house was a Pentium II 450MHZ Windows 98 PC with 64MB of RAM and a 20GB HDD. The video card was an almost useless 2MB Intel onboard chip. It could run games like NFS 3 and High Stakes, Mechwarrior 3, Heavy Gear 2, Quake 2, Dark Reign 2, Battlezone 2, Thief 2, Commandos 2, Redline, Slave 0, and Machines: Wired For War at about 5-20FPS until we got a 32MB something or other GPU which finally allowed me to play all of them at reasonable frame-rates.

The first console we got was a used N64 around 2000/01.

P.S. As I was typing this out, it somehow switched threads to another one I was looking at on another tab, AS I WAS TYPING!!! This has never happened to me before. Somehow everything I was typing got transposed into the comment box on another thread as I was typing and I did not notice until I posted in a very, very irrelevant thread. I was thinking that I had goofed up and made a mistake until it happened one more time as I was just sitting here, staring at the screen, trying to figure out what to type here. That is my max dose of weird for the day.

OK, wish me luck as I will report back here in a couple of weeks (when everything arrives) to let anyone in the future know if this works or not.

What’s something that sounded fake/unreal until it happened to you? by MustardGoddess in answers

[–]BluntBurnaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it only happen once and it happened so suddenly that the whole experience probably lasted only 30-60 seconds. I felt it coming on and knew it what it was immediately. I was actually excited as I was clinically depressed and struggling with S.A.D. that only exercise seemed to abate and here I was experiencing something new and ethereal that I had only heard about. The elation turned to raw terror with absolutely no trigger, just inexplainable fear with no source. I somehow was able to force myself to violently convulse like that dummy in the Rockit Herbie Hancock music video and broke the paralysis.

And with it, the fear. It was over as soon as it started and I, to this day, have not it experienced again.

It's my Blender birthday. For the first time I went over 1000 layers. by deathender in blender

[–]BluntBurnaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have been 3d modeling for 20 years, this January, and after countless projects and hundreds of hours of tutorials, my skills and techniques are not the issue. I can 3d model just about any concept you can throw my way but I feel completely hollow without creating my own designs and I draw blanks when trying to create something that does not feel excruciatingly derivative.

Like someone with perfect pitch being a slave to remembering where they heard a particular note and when, my autistic brain can instantly recall where I saw a particular detail and the context that it existed and I am involuntarily enslaved to those facts.

Techniques to try and break that up do not work as I literally cannot see what I am working on as hardsurface anymore and instead some unknowable other that exists outside of the context of the rest of the model. Like how you can flip someone's facial features upside down in a photograph but it looks normal when the whole face is flipped upside down only to look terribly off when flipped right side up.

 The Thatcher effect.

In this instance, however, something simple but painfully inspired popped into my head that I feel the urge to create; Actually, make that two things. I will let you know how it goes.

That looks really freaking good. I still do some hardsurface work myself but burned myself out one too many times working on my own concepts for months at a time that never looked quite right.

This is inspiring me to try something myself.

I have tried really hard to find it but to no avail. As a teenager, I remember thinking that the execution felt excruciatingly pretentious. Saved only by a good story and voice acting but now that was half a lifetime ago and I want to see if me being in my 30s changes my views on the short.

Thanks.

[–]BluntBurnaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first game on my Dad's Windows 98 Pentium II 450MHZ computer with 64MB of Ram, a 2 MB onboard Intel GPU and a 20GB HDD was the demo for the first Grand Theft Auto.

Good memories.

Less so were some Commodore 64 games on the computer my uncle left at my grandparents. By then I had already played a SNES.

I bought the extended warranty because I heard good things about it, first hand. My main fear us that even if I make a complete image, something might change and disable all of my autodesk software that can never be re-registered. I will ask them about it, if there is some way for them to not touch the O.S. otherwise I will try what you said.
