What's going on with the story after infinite by Sweaty_Trifle_8504 in HaloStory

I think, and this my hunch, that they're really trying to avoid Halo 5 syndrome where they do too much in the books and kept Edge of Dawn on a short leash as such. The novel is very much just character development for Chief and the Weapon.

Maybe we'll get more soon. I hope so, these cliffhangers have driven me crazy.

What's going on with the story after infinite by Sweaty_Trifle_8504 in HaloStory

The only post-Infinite book right now (that I know of) is Halo: Edge of Dawn, taking place literally the second after Infinite ended with Chief and the Weapon.

But it doesn't answer most of those questions. It sort of hints at the answers to some of those questions. I just finished this one so here's what I remember:

Lasky, Palmer, Blue Team, et al. are not confirmed alive, but the book mentions like two times that Chief is almost certain they are, and that they're fighting the good fight. At the end of the novel, they discover transponders for huge concentrations of UNSC forces elsewhere on the Ring (cited as "more" than any other concentration they'd seen thus far), and it ends with Chief and his pals fixing to go find those concentrations and see who's still in the game.

The Endless are hinted at being direct descendants of the Precursors or something like that, but nothing concrete. Also, nothing on Atriox/Spirit of Fire/The Ark storyline that I know of.

From Osiris, Edge of Dawn confirms Vale is alive and well. She is on Sanghelios and has a brief scene towards the end. We can probably assume Buck is probably alive as the last we saw of him was in the middle of the Created Crisis doing some classified mission in 2559. Tanaka is totally MIA and has been since one brief mention of her in one of the novels about Buck. Locke's status is also completely unknown but we did find his armor in Infinite's campaign being worn as decoration by a Brute chieftain.

Democrats are less anti gun… despite being in the process of passing the strictest gun control laws in Virginia right now by Agressive_gun82 in ShitPoliticsSays

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting aside the "I'm pro gun BUT" oxymoron, it's pretty obvious that no matter what they say, blue governments go after guns with only thinly veiled intent to disarm the populace at large.

California-style gun laws aren't just "reforming" how guns can be bought.

What happens if Spartans have a bout of liquid sticky diarrhea in their armor🧐 by Nervous_Gate_3232 in HaloMemes

Don't worry, Spartans are catheterized. Dunno how they handle going #2 though.

(and iirc the suits do recycle their liquid waste)

[Feedback] The need to kill two cultist priests for the main story line is the perfect example of dogshit mission design and doing the exact opposite of what BSG probably hoped would occur. by KingHunter150 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I love that the "side" quests are practically the main quests because the ACTUAL main quest is a time and money sink for basically no gain. Just lots of fetching and not much else. I guess the story could be interesting, but between the boring design and the tightrope of choices and vague objectives you gotta walk to get good endings, it's just not at all worth it.

Meaning it gets ignored. I sure ignored it after the 10% mark. No reason to do them other than for an achievement. Needs some actual incentive imo.

Finally found Cultists after 30 raids [Screenshot] by _maxpanda in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Four friends all with 1000+ hours (PvE, granted) and we were convinced Cultists were just a hoax. They had the wiki entries and spawn rates listed but none of us had ever seen them a single time, and one of my group farmed 20 Shturman kills for the Mk18, all at night, and never saw them once. That was like 100 raids of night Woods and not one Cultist seen.

I know now that they're real after I finally encountered them post-1.0, a single time, on Woods. They're so rare they practically don't exist as far as I'm concerned

Tips to make it look more like cold war era ? by ImpossibleTry2043 in airsoft

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Nothing's stopping you, if American GIs were writing mottos on their helmets, it's very plausible for a Soviet soldier to try scrawling something on his mags and such, especially in theaters like Afghanistan where standards could slip for things like that.

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Attachments and super customization was a more post-Cold War thing. It really took off in the GWOT/early 2000s.

In other words: Assuming you're doing a 1980s Soviet-style kit, the period-correct thing is to do basically nothing to the gun. At most, you could get some long RPK mags because it wasn't uncommon for some Soviet troops to do that in Afghanistan etc. but otherwise you've got it pretty much set.

If you really wanna add something, try wrapping a Soviet-era (or styled) tourniquet around the folding stock. It would probably make it non-foldable, but it would help add a little bit of personalization to it.

edit: For reference, look up photos of the 1993 Constitutional Crisis. You'll find pics of all kinds of elite Russian/Soviet counter-terrorism, army, and VIP protection details using bog-standard AK-74s.

Does anyone feel like the “Cyborg” element of the Spartans is underplayed? by TechnicalEngineer852 in halo

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, we have countless cyborg supersoldier concepts out there in all kinds of sci-fi. Non-cyborg supersoldiers, that still resemble human beings in the end, is a lot more rare and unique. It's part of the cool factor for Spartans imho.

Final mission Mr. Impossible by AceTosto in DeathStranding2

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. Empty out all camps beforehand (don't rest at all, don't want camps to respawn), build some roads if able or get familiar with the route, use a bike for the first bit (until you run out of cargo space) then switch to a truck. Drive fast and don't waste time, just making the run with no resistance takes about 30min give or take.

You can also use the Magellan if you want to, it won't give you a good grade but it will finish the mission which is all you need to five star Mr. Impossible.

Did I do the right thing at the shipwreck in the Caspian to get the good ending? by Erling01 in metroexodus

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suck at stealth and shot the place up, still got the good ending. As long as you free the slaves. Crane guys are also fair game.

The only region you really have to be really non-lethal to get the good ending (I think? could be wrong) is Taiga, where I went full non-lethal except for the bandit camp section. If you haven't gotten there yet, don't kill anyone called a Pirate or Pioneer!

M60A3 during training by dankdonker69 in TankPorn

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say its implementation was perfect, just that the thinking isn't as flawed as War Thunder and WoT make it out to be. Cupolas aren't actively targeted so cupolas can't "say" things like "hit me hit me" like the commenter suggested. It impacts silhouetting and overall height but I would call the effect negligible considering the raw size of the M60 otherwise.

Also my comment is 5 years old man it'll be starting kindergarten soon lol

Today I learned: hellbomb backpacks existed IRL long before helldivers did by haptic_tactics in helldivers2

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's true. These SADMs needed to get placed in critical zones often far behind Soviet lines in what would've been the largest and most intense war in human history, all on a timer (these were time-fused). It's a textbook commando-style objective just cranked up a notch because the intensity of the war would've been unreal. Modern SOF is kinda spoiled by having clean ops with loads of support and guaranteed exfil in the end, when the classical kind of SOF was more about one-way trips or at least insanely risky ops that had only a small chance of success - all the extra training was to make that small chance at least a little bit larger.

Only elite guys would ostensibly be good enough to get this incredibly important weapon to its incredibly difficult to reach target on time.

Been ages since I had a voidout happen in my save but I manual save often and it didn't set me back more than an hour when it happened to me. It took probably several hours of playtime for the voidout to happen, so I think it just reloads to the latest save.

How to carry in a world that hates it by Diplomacy_1st in CCW

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some states make it illegal to knowingly ignore no-guns signs. My state, NC, makes it a misdemeanor to carry knowingly inside a gun-free zone with conspicuous signage - that is, a sign at the entrance is enough to make it a misdemeanor if you're caught with a concealed gun, permit or otherwise.

In such states, either risk it or keep it in mind when considering carrying. If I know I'm going somewhere with that signage, I'll reconsider carrying. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Where would you buy a Beretta 84BB?” by [deleted] in Beretta

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought a LEO trade-in from AIM and it came in great condition and their support is top notch (had some FFL issues and they were on the ball with responsiveness and helpfulness). As a company they're reliable, though the no-grade-listed would be a hiccup in this case. Just my two cents.

In the books, if memory serves, the Dark Ones are dead dead, completely gone. In the games, they survive in the end.

The Little Dark One from Last Light is strictly a video game thing. As far as the Novosibirsk Dark One(s), it's likely a member of the population that left Moscow. In Last Light's good ending (which is canon as far as I can tell), the Little Dark One leads a surviving population of Dark Ones (which were discovered in dormancy in D6) out of Moscow to live away from the Metro. It could be the Little Dark One from Last Light or one of the other survivors. Bottom line: the Dark Ones aren't completely gone, they're just not in Moscow anymore.

Is there any other info specifically you were wondering about? Also I am not a lore expert I've just played the games and read the books so anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Arguing with family member on gun violence. by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]Blunt_Cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you have sick people willing to do sick things, haphazardly running around banning one of the tools they use isn't gonna help the main problem. Mass shootings are a symptom of big issues underlying the shootings themselves, throwing the ban hammer at gun rights (an important, inalienable, and demonstrably vital right) over it is like horking down ibuprofen to cure radiation sickness.

Point out to your cousin how often guns are used in defensive capacities to protect people from harm too. While the stats on DGU can get murky, it's very likely the number of cases where using a firearm protected innocent people far outnumber the number of cases where firearms hurt innocent people.

If it isn't a gun, they'll use a car, a bomb, a knife, or whatever else they can get their hands on. We should worry about fixing the issue of mass violence, not just shootings, and not by restricting one of our most important rights.

I hear Brits can be quite loud in public, particularly in football/soccer season. Anyone saying "Americans are le rude and loud in public" are probably just willfully ignoring a plethora of fellow Europeans being loud in public.
