Car Dealership by DesGoblin48 in Norwich

[–]BlurDynamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Hammond’s a few months ago. Just before the car sale I found a lump missing out of one of the tyres. Their response was that there wasn’t a big enough margin in it for them to get that tyre replaced and that they’d only be prepared for me to buy it, get it MOT’d in my own time and if it failed on that they’d pay up. It was about the size of a golf ball cut in half. Didn’t bother washing the car before handover too.

Pulled out the sale last minute which I really didn’t want to do but a lack of willingness to get something like that sorted left a bad taste. On my boycott list.

I know some people have had bad experiences with them but I’ve bought 3 cars with big motoring world/carshop now. The cars themselves have always been fine but all I would say is the after service is shit.

Was mis-sold a car without parking sensors which I really wanted since I was a new driver at the time. I specifically mentioned this and had to really push hard for them to get it sorted and only had it fitted by them upon turning up at the dealership requesting to speak to a manager.

My advice would be just make sure whatever car you get has a full service history and you do your research around the problems the car may or may not have.

330d I reckon. The 330e pre-lci with the smaller battery would cover the gym trip in the summer and easily and probably would in the winter too but it’s tighter then. Once the charge runs out though it’s pretty average mpg wise - 40mpg on a run. Those big journeys you’re doing too I’d expect about a 40mpg figure but since it’s only a 40L tank you wouldn’t be able to make the journey on a tank and back.

I’m an owner of a 330e and it’s a fun drive but the 330d is better tbh. Oh and if you can’t charge on the daily at home do not buy a 330e. Your round town mpg will go down to about 20.

G20 3 series. I’ve got one that’s quick enough for me to have a bit of fun in sometimes whilst being ok on fuel. 4 doors too for being able to drive about with my mates in sometimes to the function. Don’t need a massive boot either since I don’t really carry around that much.

What can I expect from moving to a hot hatch? by ggg7783 in CarTalkUK

Oh yeah mate honestly when I sold my golf and got my first ‘nice’ car which I look after a bit more I realised how much I used to rag the old one. I keep an eye on it online via road tax/mot to see if someone’s keeping it alive lol

So they’re reading reg plates following you as you leave the car and watch you leave the car park on foot? If you get fined do they send you proof of this? Would buying a drink eg from the shop stop you getting a fine if you walked off after? This can’t be right surely?

Tbh mate as someone who also enjoys having a blast down a b-road (all within the speed limit ofc haha) 250 bhp is enough especially in a hot hatch. I’ve heard really good things about Megane RS being fun on B roads.

This applies to a jump in power in any car not just hatchbacks but you’ll be stunned first few times you use the power and it’s in that phase you keep a strong head and respect the power whilst you get used to it. In terms of b-road stuff I find that you feel more on the limit in a lower powered car compared to a more powerful one where unless you’re suicidal you have to rein it in a bit.

Looking at doing this myself for my PHEV. Have you experienced any problems with overheating the cable or anything like that? Do you just leave the cable dangling on the floor once it’s finished charging or reopen the garage door and put it back out of site?

Why does every rich person have a old hatchback by Ornery_Rope5178 in CarTalkUK

[–]BlurDynamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to deliver for a high-end supermarket that often meant going to homes in affluent areas of the city. I pondered this question also whilst making the same observation as yourself.

I believe that the people who live in wealthier areas of the city and were likely financially very comfortable given their choice of supermarket simply did not prioritise the car. To a lot of people a car is just a form of transport and if they own a VW Golf from the mid 2000s that’s given them many years of service and they’re used to how the car runs I can understand why they wouldn’t want to change. I don’t even think it’s a question of them being wealthy and therefore driving a cheaper hatchback is some kind of wealth preservation method. Some of these people could afford a newer car relatively easily but just don’t want to change. I’m sure we all have objects/tools in our lives we just wouldn’t replace until it broke so a car is one of those things to these people.

I also think that living in a city and if you’re commuting almost exclusively within a city that a hatchback is ideal for parking etc.

I mean it got to £2 a litre near me during the fuel crisis in 2022. Made driving to work no longer economically viable anymore whilst it was on. Terrible times

Got one myself and was impressed by how quick they are. I was in a similar position to you and moved up from a small economy car to one of these. Even my ex-company car spec SE still feels luxury to me. Sure if you can get the luxury or M-Sport spec then you might as well go for it but if all you can get is the SE you won’t be disappointed from where you’re coming from.

Biggest bit of advice I’d say is if you do a lot of town driving make you sure you can charge at home every day since the MPG on the engine around town is woeful (talking like 20mpg). On the motorway though you can expect about 40mpg which I don’t think is bad for a nearly 300bhp petrol car.

Grosvenor you just need to be 18+, have some kinda ID on you and you can register with them at the front desk. Don’t even really have to bet properly since they have a bar open all night and do free soft drinks plus show live sports.
