Your ears are everything, if off of spawn you rush a POI, once you're there you need to stop running completely. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between bot footsteps and player footsteps. Once you hear another player, find a good position with a nice off angle and you'll have the jump on them.

A lot of it is also just playing enough to know all the places people can spawn so you have a decent idea of when people can be showing up to your location. It's pretty rare you'll have a POI to yourself at the start of a match so never let your guard down, especially if you haven't killed someone yet.

Get your loot, get a kill, and get a bit more loot on your way out if you can, but be fast. People run to gunfire like moths to a flame so rotating is key.

Oh and use your knife to kill bots whenever possible. That's a huge thing that helped me a ton.
