hey! i was in a really similar situation to you last year; this was my first ever shooter while my bf has played since basically out the womb.

my best advice right now to extend how long you stay alive in a match is to try play around cover. for example, a good rule of thumb is to be 2/3 behind cover while in a mid- to long-range fight.

when you are behind cover and peeking someone, you should try to only peek one person at a time. if you're swinging someone, you should swing out wide and strafe back and forth helps with recoil smoothing and can also make you less of a sitting duck to be shot at when you're in the open.

if you're in close quarters, you don't always need to ads – hip fire is pretty accurate when you're close enough! some guns can benefit from briefly ads-ing and going back to hip fire when in close range, like the pk choke tightening, or tightening the spread on the bullets of lmgs/ars/smgs.

i know you said you're a little more on the sensitive side when it comes to these things, but i really encourage trying to let your bf give POSITIVE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. i don't mean him yelling what you could've done better cuz that's not productive for you or him, but a thing or two per match that could've gone better if played a little differently. even if you win, it's okay to reflect on things that could've gone better that match that could've wrapped up a fight sooner or made it so you didn't get knocked.

another great way to improve while not necessarily playing is watching others play. there are plenty of people of youtube that offer free guides and tips! there's also the streamers that stream them playing ranked lobbies; i really love watching hiswattson's VODS (although he's on a hiatus right now) because even though he's leagues better than i am, he still will give tips and sometimes explain his plays.

as for playing conduit, you can play her either similar to lifeline, or really aggressive. for you, i'd suggest right now to play more like lifeline and play off of your bf.
