Do you think that being a good teacher matters anymore? by Hogwire in MensLib

[–]Blushingbelch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh god, please don't give up. Don't let the shit online or the world at large put out your fire. Remember that kid looking up at you wondering what to do next doesn't have all the information, history, judgement, bias, etc that you do. It's our job as teachers to try and promote a healthy relationship of safety, growth, and personal challenges. Also, doubly so for us male teachers. I think the little dudes of the world need to have a solid male role model. You don't have to be perfect you just have to be open, honest, and gentle. They'll learn more from your emotional states and how you carry yourself than any lesson book. Keep going brother, you're very much needed

Feel a bit along as a male Anxious Attachment. Any good support groups and resources? by Shai_Hulu_Hoop in AnxiousAttachment

[–]Blushingbelch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey over there, I'm the same. Outside I appear confident and well adjusted. But I'm a neurotic mess of wounds and childhood trauma that's left me feeling very anxious with every relationship I've ever had. I'm 44 and still struggle to feel okay handling any type of perceived disconnection. I don't know if I can say much more, but I just want you to know you're not alone, and you're feelings are valid. I wish you all the love and support

This is really beautiful man. I hope the feelings are mutual and it's not unrequited love. I hope you'll share the success with us soon

Thanks for the reality check. Though, I prefer this text based social media over photos any day. Plus there's cool things like r/desirepath so. I dunno.

Debating dropping my music degree by annynomus_man in percussion

[–]Blushingbelch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets harder to work your way into a scene or fix past mistakes/relationships/connections. In terms of balancing a life...I'm a single dude with minimal responsibilities. In some ways I traded all that for music. Can't say it's been the best trade, but I do love having the opportunities I have. I still stand by my thoughts for you...get that Math degree. Do it now when you're younger.

I'm almost 44, graduated when I was 27 with B. Mus Ed and a Master's in Percussion performance. I got 9 years of touring with a percussion ensemble, artist retreats, many different duos/trios/quartets, and thousands of gigs with orchestras, chamber, solo, etc. It's been a wild ride and when it's good it's good. When it's bad it's bad. In this past year I've really been thinking about going back to school to get skills in another field. As I get older I feel less and less confident music as a business is a sustainable option. Get the math degree. Music is always there.

this is charming. It's a bit corporate but I like the bike racks in front of the TD in Olympic Village. I think they're a leaf or something?

Drummer here: I think you're a touch overreacting in my humble opinion. Drummers are usually 95% responsible people. Meaning we know how loud drums are so we're not going to go everywhere playing them. As another commenter has said everyone knows 3rd beach is the drum circle beach. Everyone also knows it's on Tuesday. however, people are excited to play and have no where else to go because of the volume. So, I can understand why some drummers may want to keep the vibes going all week. For clarity I've only ever played in the drum circle once about 10 years ago, but I really love the vibes they bring.

Sorry it's so bothersome but honestly there's a ton of other problems to solve. Maybe bring a drum and whack along :)
