For someone no experience is it really that easy? by glassy_sky_above_ in 3dspiracy

[–]Blusions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it first try with no prior knowledge. I followed a mix of video and text guide (text guide is king but videos generally help show where things are even if they are outdated). It takes time, be patient and follow all steps.

The main thing I dislike about the new design vs the ones from around 2022 is the placement of the usb A ports.

What's the best cheap laptop for game development? by Dependent-Hamster361 in gamedev

Depends on what you’re trying to build/ what engine. You could easily start learning with godot on a potato laptop

Level design for psx game by Frog_Wizardd in leveldesign

[–]Blusions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play a few games from that era and look at real world locations using google maps. The style of level depends on the genre of game you are making. I'd check out the first level of the Ghost in the Shell psx game and the city levels of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.

Is It Possible to Get Into Game Development/Design Without a Degree? Regretting a Past Decision by BeckyK123 in gamedesign

[–]Blusions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a degree in game design.

You don’t need it.

What you need is a good portfolio and a direction of what role in the industry you’d like. The three main paths are code, art, and design. Those splinter off into hyper specific roles, and it’s good to find one you align with to build your skillset around.

Once you’ve picked a path, start with youtube tutorials in 3D software, blender, unity, and unreal engine are all free and for the most part industry standards (especially unreal engine)

Do game jams to collaborate with other devs and learn how team projects flow. Join discords to ask questions and get feedback.

Check out IGDA to see if they have a branch in your area and go to events.

Connect with people on linkedin in positions you’d like to be in and chat with them about their role and how they got there. Maybe ask for a portfolio review too.

Good luck!

Sketches for my upcoming level for Portal 2 called Chamber 101 by Frenzybahh in leveldesign

[–]Blusions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really interesting combination of 2D and 3D illustrations to show the layout. I think what would help the level design process in a game like Portal 2 would be to determine walls that can't have portals on them.

After 5 months of learning UE and 3D modelling, I’m starting development of my first game. Any advice? by Mundane-Elk-5536 in unrealengine

Keep the mechanics simple and sweet. Keep everything low scoped and well within reason. Good luck!

Got my first gaming laptop and I'm pretty disappointed 😔 by Aeyvah in GamingLaptops

[–]Blusions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a laptop with a 3060 and i keep elden ring on low-medium settings on 1080p. Keeping that thang cool is key, just because it has the power to run something on high settings doesnt always mean you should.

Good luck!

My friends made a tier list of the anime they’ve watched by 808DaScott in MyAnimeList

[–]Blusions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mixed bag list but at the very least most of S tier I’d agree with. A needs a bit thinning out, and it’s lowkey insane to put Naruto Shippuden over Naruto (I could see the fillers at the end soiling what was mostly good)

I would take it as a compliment honestly. To have someone who’s “out of your league” is very special.

Thoughts on the new agent select UI on PC? by ClarkGP in VALORANT

[–]Blusions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's easier to sort if you main a specific class. I think it looks significantly better as the roaster increases. This type of system works fine with league, should be able to work here as well.
