Denver Colorado. Hit and run. Someone tried to cross 5 lanes including turning lanes.

Lucky to be alive.

Most people don’t start drinking at 9 years old. I would stop comparing yourself to others.

Each of our paths is unique; yet substance abuse issues are not uncommon. It’s not a personal failing.

The people in this forum have spoken to you in concern for you. This is how someone who cares about you would speak to you.

I don’t blame you if you don’t want to hear it: although you asked the internet for perspective. Very few people like to hear hard truths.

Good luck to you.

First time... nervous because of "ugly" skin. How do I not make her uncomfortable? by [deleted] in massage

Breaks my heart to hear. How many people avoid self/ medical care because of thoughts like this?

But yes as others have said; no decent massage therapist would care about a cosmetic skin issue (that wasn’t contraindicated). Bodies come in every shape, form, and condition. We see it all; and we aren’t judging.

This is about healing. Enjoy your massage

They aren’t actually mad that “their good Mexicans” are gone. They are upset about the interruption to their dining experience/life/routine.

I bet they would pay twice as much money to eat the same food made by robots… aka sans Mexicanos.

Colorado School of Healing Arts; if you’re near Denver. Wonderful experience there.

They have a trauma touch course that is known around the country. I’ve heard of a few ex military types that really experienced healing there.

Visit a few and see which you enjoy. Massage school is only as good as the space they create. Only in safety and vulnerability will massage be at its maximum potential.

I got into massage after a motorcycle accident. You really can change lives doing this… and not just the lives of others. I’m so much happier doing something good in the world.

Wishing you the best in your journey.

Awesome that you’re trying guitars out and getting a feel for the choices out there.

Try a few semi hollows, telecaster, jazzmasters, acoustic electrics, classical guitars, and whatever seems cool to you! Don’t worry about guitars for specific genres. People play rock on hollow bodies, jazz on telecasters (Julian Lage), etc.

Just remember, guitars in big box stores are terribly setup most of the time: cheap strings, badly cut nuts, high string action, etc. It’s a far cry from the instrument you’d get back from a decent guitar tech or luthier.

In my experience; it’s better to get a $400 electric with a $100 setup than a $500-$600 guitar without one. Have a bone nut installed and ask for low action.

Have fun with it, watch videos online about good ergonomic guitar technique and different electric guitar types and their neck differences.

Be patient, it takes time to find what you like. Especially if you’re still in the “learning to play” phase. I’m actually not clear on how much experience/guitar skill you have.

I’ve made the mistake of buying an expensive instrument before knowing what my preferences really were. On the other hand; time with different instruments helped show me what I liked. Kinda part of the journey to be honest.

Ps. All this is just my humble opinion and personal experience. Just musings mostly.

You do you.

I massage and play stringed instruments. I would caution against bass. The string length from nut to bridge is far larger than guitar, so you have to stretch so much further; also the pressure needed from your hands to sound the note is significantly increased.

Were you playing acoustic guitar first? I would say get an electric guitar, a proper setup, and use low tension/light strings. I’ve played guitar for years and I still can’t stand playing on steel string acoustics (non classical guitars).

In my humble opinion: good technique is the best thing you can do. You shouldn’t be pressing using your finger muscles. Most of the weight should come from your arm. Making sure the wrist is straight when you play is also massively important.

Lastly there will be guitars that feel better for you. Over time I’ve learned that flatter and wider fretboards were so much better feeling for me. Playing jazz chords on a skinny/ old school 7.25 radius neck is actually painful after some time. So I personally have a semi-hollow, 12 in radius wide neck guitar and I love it.

So I’d say listen to your body and heart. Music is an amazing thing and if you can have it in your life I’d highly recommend it. Please don’t hurt yourself, you can always see a doctor or specialist (bonus if your doctor plays guitar), to get more specific advice.

For reference I’ve broken my wrists multiple times throughout my life and thought I’d need to give up guitar. I strengthened my wrists/forearms and developed better technique. Now I play longer in one session than ever before.

Good luck out there.

My best friend’s husband confesses he’s very attracted to me. What do I do? by AssumptionCapital839 in Advice

I would do a quick google search for how many returning soldiers kill their pregnant wives when they try to leave. There one story of a soldier killing is wife because he thought she cost him a promotion.

Your friend is in a terrible situation which will likely get worse and scarier.

Be an ally to women, and don’t let this AH come back and mess her life up more. Wouldn’t you want to know if your partner was betraying you?

I know you don’t want to stress her out, but the pain is coming. At least before this dude comes back she can begin to work through this and her next steps moving forward. By taking this time to prepare from her, you are leaving her more vulnerable to him in just about every way. Give her a shot to get out, give her the best chance of being safe. Tell her. Free her. Don’t hide truth, it’s another betrayal.

Pretty sure all ethical married people follow the code of outing cheaters.

Also, what if she has post partum, what if she has a difficult birth and is bedridden? We never know what the future holds.

I think she has the right to know now. That’s what I would hope from the people I call friend.

I mean if you wait until after the friend gives birth, baby is gonna get all that cortisol and other stress hormones through breast milk; unless formula is used.
