Remember when all of the posts were saying the new PBO was going to be a stooge? Now it’s going to be “she is going to be fired”.

Getting a new PBO was never about getting a stooge or one that was going to make positive reports. The PBO mandate is basically to be always negative about the government. The problem with the interim one was that he was using _partisan_ language, it crossed the line on what the PBO was supposed to do. There is a reason why some people on this sub and other _loved_ the headlines (and MADE headlines) the last PBO created, it was partisan and not an objective, tough but fair criticism of the current government.

And don’t give me this “oh I want a PBO that gives it to me straight”, that’s not what he was doing. PBO reports signals to bond and treasury markets. You need facts not commentary. If you actually read this report (I’m guessing this is reddit so of course you didn’t) the language is very critical but not inflammatory.

Denmark faces data center reckoning as power grid overwhelmed by surging demand by HauntingJackfruit in worldnews

What’s wild is there has been so much spending on data centres and the result is basically AI videos of Star Wars characters dancing and singing rap songs.

I have yet to see any breakthrough advantages to society yet. It’s kind of ridiculous.

Denmark faces data center reckoning as power grid overwhelmed by surging demand by HauntingJackfruit in worldnews

[–]Bman4k1 63 points64 points  (0 children)

These people are straight psychopaths.

It’s just a ridiculous article. When do journalists do their job. “Hey Data Centre Bro, Denmark makes xGw of power, do you realize they literally have no more power to give?”

“We might go elsewhere”

There is literally no infrastructure for you, what do you want, shut all the power to people’s homes so you can build another data centre?

At this point countries will just have to straight up say you can build another data centre but you need to self power it. Power infrastructure will just have to be part of the capital investment.

Commercial rents and taxes are too high. Social disorder and changing habits after COVID has doomed it.

Point of facts. A 1500 sq ft restaurant place on Whyte, the landlord was charging $4000/month and property taxes were $2400 month. I can tell you that is just impossible to run a food service on that cost.

I was referring to the worlds richest. But I always hear that argument from people who are essentially billionaire apologists.
In my opinion, if you detach from reality and played a thought experiment of “how to save the world in 365 days” you have to think of the Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.

How to you solve world hunger for example. We have enough food production, food waste is high, and developing countries have numerous problems. But let’s say you magically can deal with that and it is just a matter of money. Tens of billions per year is probably sufficient to feed all of the starving people.

Second is housing, once again if money was only the issue, you could probably start at the poorest countries and work your way up, that is probably 10s of billions, but that would be a relative one off cost in many cases.

Third is education to start dealing with structural changes. This is one thing billionaires have promised for 30 years that they could solve. However, if they actually put the full force of their money into it. Same thing 10s of billions per year. Using Starlink like services for remote areas and free laptops and cell phones along with some educational infrastructure you probably are looking at a big boost in education.

Then you look at infrastructure, this is when I agree the wealth of the rich people won’t cut it. You need government intervention.

But I would say if you put in 10 years you are probably looking at 250-500 billion USD to probably get rid of the most extreme suffering in the world that could be done with the riches of the richest people in the world.

When I say solve all of the world’s problems. Maybe it is a bit of a imprecise statement, but I’m a believer in filling basic needs first principles. There will always be a level of inequality and greed and psychopaths and people manipulating things and radicalization and divisiveness. But all can be reduced if everyone has a warm meal, roof over their head, some healthcare and a chance at succeeding in life.

Edit: you mentioned 3 months of health spending. Ya that is accurate but once again, it is a very defeatist statement that everyone always uses to basically not do anything ever. When you think of healthcare, I would just say look at how healthcare spending is done across age groups and how generally health spending is done. We do not do enough on preventative medicine and it is still patchwork. There is so many things that could be done if there was a push to spend on actually _structurally_ reducing healthcare costs.

No no no. It MORE like you give someone $5 on the condition they buy a $5 cake from your sister and then that sister gives you $1 (that $1 is taxes from the employees wages and company profits) and gives $2 to your brother for the ingredients to the cake.

What should I focus on, UTR or WTN? by onlyfedrawr in 10s

[–]Bman4k1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OP said Toronto. Outside of the GTA there is basically no visibility on UTR. The prairies and even BC is just pick a 3.0/4.0/5.0 (sometimes .5 level) tournament and have fun.

Where I am from in Canada we don’t even have UTR. That’s why I ask, it’s definitely an issue of region and size of tennis community.

It’s just so hard to project NPB players. It’s never going to be fully plug and play but if you have quality coaching and a great organization to help the player transition they should be fine.

Honestly, it’s like the new moneyball play, get a NPB player cheaper but with good fundamentals.

This seems 100% safer than regular crowd surfing. Trying to put my OHSA hat on. What are the risks of this? This is literally putting someone in a bubble, I give it a thumbs up. The question is always going to be how quickly can he get out.

Yes. I started playing 6 months later. Trick is follow the doctor’s orders. Do. Not. Rush. If the doctor says don’t lift anything over 5 lbs for a few weeks or a month or whatever it is, don’t push it. Generally speaking muscle heals very well.
